The passing bell rang.
"Damn, why do you have to be so much trouble, Chad?" Rick muttered grumpily.
" Rick, I'm afraid you'll have to finish your project demonstration on Monday, oh, wait Monday's a holiday. Finish Tuesday then, " said the teacher.
"Yes,m," Rick answered unhappily. He looked down at the anthropomorphic dog that was the former quarterback and BMOC, and sighed, "What am I going to do with you, Chad?"
" What do you mean, Rick? " Dexter asked. Half the class had left for their next class, the rest were gathering their stuff in preparation to leave.
Rick turned to Dexter, and he suddenly smiled.
"He was supposed to be all dog. He was going on that crate, and I was going to drop him off at obedience school. But they won't take a half human dog. How about you take him this weekend, Dex? I'll add you to his ownership papers temporarily, and that will make him obey you."
"Chad, would be mine for the weekend, and have to obey me?"
" Well, he's still a dog without obedience training, but he should recognize you as master. Why don't you put some pants on him. Try his scrimmage shorts from his gym bag, put them on backwards, so his tail can stick out, and lace do so they don't fall off in Chad's next class. I'll do the paperwork. "
Chaddog remained focused on Rick, as Dexter struggled with the football shorts.
"There," said Rick tapping his pencil and folding up the paperwork ,and handing it to Dexter. Instantly, Chad was picking and sniffing Dexter.
"Whoa, Chad boy, let's get a shirt on you," Dexter said shoving the folded ownership papers in his back pocket.
Chad stood on his hindfeet, and raised his forearms. Dexter lowered Chad's mesh football jersey over the Quarterback 's clueless grinning face and floppy uncut Doberman ears. Chad rested his forepaws on Dexter 's shoulders and licked Dexter's face, and happily wagged his tail. Dexter noted that the dog pass still had opposable thumbs.
The teacher gave Rick, Dexter, and Chad hall passes. As leashed Chad followed behind his masters on all fours, Rick explained some basics to Dexter, and promised to meet after school. Dexter and Chad were honors students, so they had the next two classes together. Dexter promised not to let Chad eat anything but kibble from the bag Rick gave him.
"You're late!" Mr. Plum said as Dexter and Chad entered his classroom. Dexter handed him the hall passes, and said, " we were helping Rick with his presentation. "
"Some teachers have no respect for other teachers," he muttered, adding , "here are the test papers, take your seats and you won't get extra time, so get started."
Test? Everyone in the class was focused on their tests. Dexter walked Chad to his desk, told him to sit, stay and answer the test questions. Dexter wasn't too confident about Chad doing the latter. Then he took his own seat and raced through the questions. Half the answers were true or false, so Chad might get some right.
Plum collected the tests, and ran the forms through the scanner.
