Solum...if that's Latin...it has something to do with soil, right? You need soil near the remains of whatever beast's soul you're invoking, or at least it sounds that way. Creepy. But...intriguing. What will it actually do, if you by chance happen to get some? And what does integration mean in this context? Will you be able to put the soul in something?
You can't believe you're considering this, but...a few years ago, your neighbors did bury their dead pet in their backyard. You remember watching from an upstairs window, and thinking it was kinda gross. Why not just cremate it and bury the ashes? But it was their yard, and their pet. A black cat. How appropriate.
The site was at the very back corner of their yard, just where it met with the fence of your yard. And there was a gap in the boards there. They wouldn't even know what you did. You're finally seriously considering stealing some soil off the grave of your neighbor's dead cat just to fulfill your curiosity. So you do it.
The book in hand, you sneak out into the yard. It's night, but you don't want anyone to see what you're about to do, so you just bring a small penlight. Careful not to trip over anything, you crouch at the corner of the yard and reach through the small gap in the fence, grabbing a handful of soil. Satisfied with the fistful of dirt, you pull your hand back.
You don't want to carry a bunch of dirt inside, especially dirt from the grave of a dead cat, so you go to a spot in the yard where all lines of sight from outside the yard are blocked by fences and trees. Using the penlight, you read the strange words written on the page. They're written using the English alphabet, but for the life of you, you can't figure out what they mean. Therefore, you simply sound them out as you assume they are meant to be read. After you finish reading, you blow the dirt off you hand as instructed by the book. And then..nothing. All you can hear is the silence of the night. You snort derisively at yourself, then take a step out from under the tree into the moonlight.
Which is when suddenly, everything flashes white.
Shaking your head, you awaken to find yourself sprawled on your lawn...
