“Well, here goes nothing. Let me do the talking, ok?”
Through the haze of the strong lighting stepped a middle aged couple holding hands. A stout older man with a rosy cheeked petite wife.
“Hi there … I’m Helen and this is Todd” she said, a hand bracing the chest of her husband. You gave him a nod, and as per unspoken tradition he gave a nod right back.
So far so good.
“So … you probably don’t know but when you came in you were scanned by the clinic. Now normal people aren’t supposed to see those scans but … well … we need a little help, and we have a friend in the clinic who helped us set up here.”
Your eyes narrowed on your abductors. “Help with what?”
Helen became a little flustered at her inability to articulate the depth of the issue, but her husband gave her a reassuring embrace to calm her nerves.
“Ok …”
“Just know that what we’re about to ask is pretty out there, but honestly we mean no ill will and you can leave if you don’t want to take part.”
You almost reflexively lifted from your seat, but something about the couple before felt like they were genuine.
Helen and Todd both smiled with a little relief.
“Thanks for hearing us out. It really means a lot!” Helen motioned, stepping a little closer.
“Honey, you sure?” Todd remarked, a tinge of emotion in his practical concerned tone.
“I think so. Let’s just show him …” Helen replied, reaching for the waistband of her husband’s underwear …
