“...Once the monster was slain, I gave it’s corpse to the captain of the Eclipse Legion.” Isaac explained.
Harald double checked the letter to make sure it was real. “Yeah… That definitely matches up with the letter…. And it even has the royal seal… To think that the Obani Forest and its monsters would die off so quickly without its master...”
Harald shook his head. “Shit. If what you say is true, then you just passed up an opportunity to help the boy control his powers! And maybe… He could help others who were corrupted to keep their humanity!”
Isaac shook his head. “It doesn’t work like that. I’ve seen enough victims to know where it would have ended. Any word on where this Fytomorfia might be?”
Harald shook his head. “My information network extends to taverns all over the kingdom, but so far, there hasn’t been a sighting or job posting. Keep in mind, there’s a decent chunk of druids wandering the kingdom, and they don’t exactly go around telling people their names. If the bloody beasts had one that is.”
Isaac nodded in acceptance.
Harald tapped the letter in his hand. “This looks legit. BUT! If it turns out you forged this letter, and trust me, people have tried, then you’re looking at a bounty on your head.”
Harald went into the back room for a few short moments and came back with a bag full of gold.
Harald handed Isaac the bag, “There you go. Now scram!”
Unfazed, the paladin replied. “Actually, may I stay for the night?
Harald looked Isaac over. “Yeah, that green monster blood on your face does indicate that you’ve been working out... Wait, is that the captain armor you are wearing?!”
Isaac nodded with a smile. “Yes. He gave it to me for preventing any future deaths the forest may have caused.”
Harald silently nodded. He’s not exactly sure if he should believe his story. He could have easily stolen that armor. She’s gonna have to talk to the captain in person later. But for now, he’ll give this guy the benefit of the doubt. “Hey, wanna drink before hitting the hay? It’s on the house.”
Isaac nodded. “A mug of water would be fine.”
Harold gave him an odd look. “Okay, whatever.”
Once Harold handed Isaac his drink, he simply sipped his mug in silence.
