"This is nuts," Franklin whispered, watching as the man redressed himself before moving on to a different aisle. Deciding he needed to talk with his manager about what he had gotten himselfninti, Franklin now sprinted towards the counter.
Dian was reviewing inventory, taking stock of today's shipments as Franklin skidded to a halt. "You done already," she questioned.
"What is this place," Franklin exclaimed. "What just happened to that guy is impossible! How can we sell stuff that can change people?!"
Dian smirked, placing her clipboard down as she now beckoned Franklin to a waiting chair behind the counter. "Was expecting this conversation," she said. "It happens with everybody, I must say your probably the quickest. Then again the new guys usually dont see a customer get toddlerfied until day 2 or 3."
"So this happens all the time," Franklin gasped. "How come no one in town ever said anything!?"
Dian simply beckoned Franklin forward, an impish smile on her face. "Its complicated but the simple answer is magic."
"Magic," Franklin stated, raising an eyebrow. "Like pulling a rabbit out of a hat or sawing a woman in half. Cmon, seriously what is it."
"I am serious," Dian said sternly. "How else you explain what just happened?"
Franklin opened his mouth to answer, before closing it. He really didn't have a good explanation. "Okay let's say your telling the truth. How come no one has said anything? I mean if people got transformed into infants or whatever just by browsing the store you would think people would know."
"Unless the store made them forget," Dian countered. Dian chuckled as she saw the look of confusion spread across Franklin's face.
"Yeah I had that same expression when I started 10 years ago," she said. "In that time I've been turned into a toddler, shrank to 6 inches tall, turned into a rabbit, a centaur, and even into a guy."
"Did, did you say centaur?!"
Dian laughed a little louder as she saw Franklin gaze at her in complete shock. "Look kid," she said. "I was just like you when I started. Just out of high school and completely shocked by what I saw. The thing is this, the people that come here need something, it's not random. The store chooses them."
"It chooses them?"
"Yeah also hard to explain," she said. "Listen, try not to worry too much. Anything that happens in the store is permanent. Once your out of the store, well that's when things become a bit more complicated. Just dont screw around with the merchandise and you'll do fine."
Franklin simply nodded, turning back towards the store as he mulled over what Dian had said.
"Welcome to the shop kid," Dian called. "Guarantee this will be the weirdest job you've ever had."
