"Hi this is Bobby Forester. I was replying to your ad for a babysitter. Sorry for the short notice, I know it isn't the normal protocol here but I need to book a sitter tomorrow night, and I'm kinda desperate." The man sounded like an adult male, maybe in his 40s. "Look I mean I know there is like a fee for this..." and the man just kind of kept talking, like he was really nervous or embarrassed.
Stuart thought quickly as the man rambled through his introduction. This must be a number that was already in use. Dammit I hate that. Wait a babysitter? Stuart was actually free tomorrow, it was Friday. This might work out after all.
"Sure mister Forester" he interrupted "don't you worry at all. The only sitter we have free tomorrow is actually me, so you'll be getting the best. You are alright with the short notice fee of an additional $50 for the evening?" Stuart was smiling, doing his best impression of a business man on the phone.
Truly with the small amount of cash he got from his job at the grocery store and what his parents sent him every month he could barely afford food and rent, but since his college course load took up his every day and study took up his every night he didn't need much spending money. This was a perfect chance to finally make some easy cash and study or get free food, probably both!
"Oh $50?" The man on the line sounded surprised. Stuart was preparing to offer him a deal when the man said "That's great. I was honestly holding my breath there thinking it would be more. Now let me get your my address, this is going to be a 5pm arrival and I'll be gone until at least 2am. I have a date at the bar and like to stay until last call. Oh will that be an issue? Silly I forgot to ask how late you work." Still the sound of urgency and awkwardness in the man's voice. Stuart was just glad he was about to make the cash and let it slide.
"Yup. Its protocol to have two sitters for a late night like that, for safety reasons, but I see the roster is really really full so... as long as you approve a double attendance past sunset I'll write it off and we'll be fine." Stuart was just making things up now trying to sound professional but he was winging it and getting nervous.
A short pause, and then "Done. Here's the address." Stuart quickly wrote it down as he sat in his car, then allowed himself a long exhale. He was about to make $200 and all he had to do was answer a phone call, then watch some 8 year old. He could even invite Kyle over. Awesome!
