Because of the pandemic that was going on, a lot of things that were planned, especially for Animalia were on hold until things calmed down. But not everyone took annoyance at this. In fact, this was seen as an opportunity to refine some plans that had ben on the books for Animalia, especially new colonies.

While there were still plans for Animalians in Japan and China, the current pandemic had caused a significant slowdown in terms of constructing housing for them. But that didn't mean that the planning was at a standstill. Japan was actually doing a better job of getting larger things for the larger members, while China was still stuck on things like location and infrastructure, mainly because Animalians preferred wilderness areas to urban.
An inevitable decision was to choose an area of relatively untamed wilderness and design the colony while making as little impact as possible.
As it stood, Heiya Island was doing a great job as a kind of middle ground between Japan and China and potentially North and South Korea, but due to the recent influx of girls (and now boys) from a human trafficking ring, things were getting a little less like a real colony and more like a romantic polygon magna (I can't remember exactly what it was called). Fortunately, due to the notoriety of the GGAC, and their planned movie/tv show, there were plans to open an office/subdivision of the GGAC to help blunt the image Heiya Island was unintentionally developing.

There was also a plan to get a new colony in India, but with the pandemic going on there wasn't a lot of traveling going on. But that helped the Indian government nail down the finer details. Since Heiya Island was partly inspired by Japanese and Chinese mythology, it was ultimately decided to base the overall theme of the colony as a scene from mythic times in Hinduism, especially since some gods or goddesses were depicted as human-animal hybrids or at least associated with a certain animal.

Another colony plan was underway for one in Greece, and it was actually quite well-planned. While the overall plan was to create a city from Greco-Roman times populated by Animalians, they decided to step away from the way Greek culture was depicted in movies, tv shows, and video games, and be closer to the original mythology. While there were some that were disappointed with this, mainly on the website, the lack of 'mythical monsters' was an overall relief.

While the 2020 Olympics had been moved to 2021, which was usually when Animalia had its IAC, there was a plan to overlap the two to prevent clashing too much. There was the plan to do a stopover at Heiya Island to light a 'sacred fire' at the Shinto-style temple there, and there was a new plan to include an unofficial Martial Arts tournament on the Island.

With the pandemic going around, things were still going slowly, but there were those who were noticing that there were fewer confirmed cases and fewer fatalities. So it might seem that the pandemic was finally slowing down, but everyone wasn't quite out of the woods yet.
