Gloria and Millie vow to spend the rest of class trying to keep themselves composed. Unfortunately for Gloria sucking her thumb ironically keeps her calm enough to focus on keeping her adult thoughts straight. She didn't even realize she was doing it until a boy approached her during the next break.
"Why are you sucking your thumb?"
Gloria turns red and stammers, "I wasn't."
The boy gives a quizzical look, "I saw you and look your thumb's all wet. Are you sure you're sposed to be in kindergarten not preschool down the hall?"
Gloria can't tell if the boy if being sincere or mocking her. She's not sure which she'd prefer either. Regardless, she feels tears whelling up in her eyes and neither Millie or Lizzy are nearby for support. After making an ungraceful retreat, Gloria asks Ms. Thomas for the bathroom pass. The teacher hands it over and directs Gloria there.
She rushes out and down the hall, she sits on the toilet struggling to hold back the tears with limited success. Once she's done, Gloria goes to pull up her pants and return to class hoping her face doesn't show evidence of her crying, but before she does she realizes her clothes are different.
Her jeans are now white leggings covered in multicolored dinosaurs and her underwear has been replaced by a pair of disposable training pants. Gloria has no choice but to pull up the more childish garments and step out of the stall to wash her hands. As she does, she can't shake the feeling cast everything is slightly bigger than before.
After her hands are clean, her thumb finds it's way back into her mouth while she walks back to class. She's confused to find no sign of Millie or Lizzy only to realize she's in an entirely different room. The teacher for this class, a kind looking older woman, walks up to her and takes the bathroom pass back from her.
"Did you find the bathroom alright Gloria?"
"Uh huh, Mrs. Baker." Wait how did she know the teacher's name?
Gloria's head is still spinning while she is led back to her seat next to some little boy. Wait she knows him, duh that's her bestest friend Matt. No her bestie is Lizzy, or is Lizzy her big sister Millie's friend? That doesn't sound right either. Gloria is getting a headache trying to get all the details sorted while Mrs. Baker talks.
"Congratulations everyone! You're almost done with your first day of preschool. There's just one more thing for us to do..."
