They’ve been waiting in line so long that Leah has begun to fall asleep when she hears a familiar voice.
“Hi, Leah’s step-mom!” Leah’s eyes shoot open. It’s her friend Miley. Of all the friends to see her in this situation, why Miley? Miley is the least reliable and least loyal of her friend group. “Aw, are you babysitting?”
“It’s not babysitting if it’s your own child,” Tina answers.
“Oh my gosh, did you adopt a baby?” Miley squeals excitedly.
“Not quite. Go ahead, take a look.” Miley peers down at Leah in the stroller. Her jaw drops.
“Oh. Em. Gee. Leah, is that you?”
“Leah’s been helping me today. I had to get supplies for the daycare, and she offered to try them out,” Tina explains. Miley giggles.
“That’s hilarious! Leah, you’re a teenager, but you’re wearing a diaper and nothing over it! And you’ve got a paci, too!”
“Shut up,” Leah mutters around the pacifier.
“You know, this is a good look for you. I think you should dress up like this all the time,” Miley says. Tina sighs.
“That’s enough teasing, Miley. You should go back to whatever you were doing before you saw us.”
“Okay. But one quick pic.” Miley whips out her phone and takes a picture of Leah. “Perfect! See you later, Leah and Leah’s step-mom!”
“Tina?” Leah asks. “That picture…”
“Don’t worry, I’m already telling her mom about it and that she needs to delete it,” Tina says, taking out her phone and sending a quick text. “It’s a shame Miley doesn’t realize you were just being a good stepdaughter and helping me out.” They check out and head for the car, where Leah changes into her clothes. As Leah is changing, Tina gets a call from Miley’s mom. She walks away to take it.
“Well? Did she delete it?” Leah asks when Tina comes back.
