The economy had been pretty rough lately and you hadn't been able to find a job that paid enough to afford to move out. That was okay, at least you had your family to fall back on - even if they could be a little annoying.
Your dad was out of the picture and had been for a while. As much as you'd like to know him, the pain of him having left you at a young age still stung. From what you could remember, you looked remarkably like him. Maybe a little taller.
First up was Heather, your mom. She was a saint and a hard working nurse. She had children young and was only 44. She had a voluptuous curvy figure, a little on the chubby side. She had long brown hair that she kept in a bun (mostly for work).
Next is Emily. Your older sister was a year older than you but had less luck than you with the economy, she was unemployed. She was graceful and lithe and not particularly blessed in terms of breasts or ass but she was still pretty. She was something of a tomboy and watched sports and played video games with you.
Then there was Christopher, but he went by Chris. Your brother was a couple years younger than you and still in high school, but was a senior now. You two looked incredibly similar but he somehow ended up with the better looks and a much fitter body. He was also smart and did well in school. It made you a little jealous, but you were proud of him and happy for his blessings.
Finally was Madison (she preferred Maddy). Your younger sister was just entering high school. She was a bit of a goth, which surprised you because you figured that whole thing died out in the 2000s. Apparently not. She was pale and had died black hair and was pretty voluptuous (especially considering her age and especially compared to her sister) - as far as you knew her breast cup size was larger than your older sister's.
------------------------------------
You all gathered up for supper and chatted, but the evening soon came and you went your separate ways.
Curious, you pulled the top drawer of the filing cabinet. It was much heavier and filled to the brim with files and papers. You looked at the front, it had your name labeled clearly on the front.
You browsed through the files... the folders had strange names. "Personality characteristics", "early childhood memories", "priorities", "love life", "physical traits", and so on. You opened up "priorities". They didn't appear to have any meaningful order.
There were some sub-folders, but at the front was "physiological needs" and inside was "breathing", "eating", "expelling waste" and other things like that. You supposed they were organized by order of priority. You hadn't really ever thought of it, but "breathing" probably was your number one priority - it would be essentially impossible to focus on anything else if you choked! There was a sub-folder for "love and belonging", up front was "relationship with mom." It included wanting to feel loved by her, wanting to help her, your deep respect for how she raised you all as a single mom... wow this was pretty heavy.
Well, this was certainly a novel way to explore and understand yourself. As much as seeking deeper self-understanding was a good thing, it apparently wasn't that high in priority list and definitely below curiosity. You shut the drawer and look through the rest.
Somehow, the filing cabinet had grown some more drawers. Below yours was one labeled with "Heather", your mom. Opening up revealed a stuffed drawer, again with the same sort of folders and papers. You open up some memories. Apparently your mom really enjoyed some TV show called Heathcliff about a cat. You flipped through and found her first kiss at 13 years old. It was a bit saccharine, she got to kiss her crush at a party in a dark closet. Cute.
There was a drawer for every member of the household, you, your mom, Emily, Chris and Maddy.
Suddenly a wicked thought occurred to you... why not shuffle things around? You could change how your family acted by changing the order of their priorities. You could remove memories or personalities by taking out the folders. You could shuffle folders and files between drawers... what would Maddy act like if she had your brother's memories? You might even be able to insert files into the folders directly, they were just blank pieces of paper with writing on them. There were also folders with physical characteristics that you could alter or switch around.
