Transformation Elimination Island(!): Standoff

Right as you finally set up the tent's poles, you saw the flash of light, the likes of which caused you to glance at it in reaction. Thanks to that glance, you saw the competitor's whole transformation: her features altering to resemble that of a monkey's, her body morphing from fairly average to lithe and well-muscled, her flesh darkening as it shifted into impossibly smooth wood, her face changing from an expression of shock to one bursting in joy, and her pose swapping over to the new one. All in one simple flash.

You stared at the statue the woman had become for a moment, stunned into silence, then dove behind your tent, gathering up your things as fast as you could. There was a good chance that whoever had attacked that woman hadn't spotted you quite yet, but there was no way you were gonna stick around to find out! Simply setting up camp in a clearing like this was a bad idea! You were a sitting duck out in the open; you needed to get to cover and fast!

Glancing around yourself, you weighed your options. Obviously, going to your left, in the direction of the flash of light, was a horrible idea, and the way the Jeep had come didn't seem to be an option thanks to the barrier. Thanks to that, there were only two options: the underbrush to your right, or the jungle ahead of you.

Flicking your eyes back and forth between the options, you threw your backpack over your shoulders and made your decision: head deeper into the jungle. Based on the fact that the monkey statue had been transformed to the left and they had been shot from behind, all of the contestants had been dropped towards the edge of the barrier. That meant that if you headed to the right, you had the chance of running into another gun-toting contestant: a confrontation you weren't sure you were ready for. Thus, the most sensible choice, the one that would lead you to face the smallest amount of contestants, was to head deeper into the jungle.

Glancing around one last time, you shot to your feet and sprinted towards the trees, only slowing down once you broke through the treeline. From there, you took your steps slowly, constantly flicking your eyes back and forth as you pushed forward through the foliage, your free hand remaining on your zapper at all times.

After about half an hour of quietly sneaking about, you allowed yourself to relax, giving a sigh of relief as you strolled into a clearing in the jungle. It was a small clearing, the trees probably only ten feet apart at its widest point, but it seemed isolated and fairly well-hidden by the trees that surrounded it. Had it not been for the fact that you'd abandoned your tent, this clearing probably would've been the perfect place to set up camp. Oh well. Sighing one more time, you took another step into the clearing, intending to lean against a sturdy-looking tree across the clearing.

"SNAP!"

You immediately spun to face the sudden noise, zapper drawn from its holster and pointed at the ready, only to find another person doing the same on the other side of the clearing: a short, skinny man wearing a pair of glasses that just screamed "I code for a living". "H-hello there," the man stammered, his hands quivering a bit, "Th-this is a bit awkward, isn't it? I-I don't suppose I could convince you to put your zapper d-down, could I?"

You stared at the man for a moment. Did he… did he really try to pull a standoff with you? He was aware that this was a serious competition, right? Oh well; you weren't one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Without another moment of hesitation, you pulled the trigger on your zapper, capturing the man in the plastic gun's ray of light before he had the chance to react.

What setting did you choose for the gun?
