…the bus for elementary school. Confused, Jennifer boarded anyways.
“Good morning, Jenny,” the bus driver said. She patted a baby carrier next to her. “Come take your spot.” Jennifer climbed into the baby carrier as instructed. The bus driver buckled her in. She then dug in Jennifer’s backpack for a few moments before pulling out a pacifier. “Suck on your binky for a while.” She popped the pacifier into Jennifer’s mouth. Jennifer suckled on it instinctively.
The bus ride was rather boring, if humiliating. Children boarding either ignored Jennifer, pointed at her diaper and laughed, or cooed over her. Once they pulled up in front of the elementary school, the driver waited until all children got off, then carried Jennifer, still in the baby carrier, into the school.
Inside the school, the bus driver made a beeline for a bathroom.
“They don’t pay me enough to change dirty diapers, but what do I do? I do it anyways,” the bus driver muttered, removing Jennifer from the carrier and putting her on the changing station. Jennifer’s first diaper change in over ten years was embarrassing, but thankfully quick. The worst part was that Jennifer hadn’t realized she’d wet herself until she saw the bus driver remove the yellow diaper.
“Sowwy,” Jennifer mumbled as the bus driver set her on the ground.
“It’s not your fault, sweetie. Let’s get you to class.” The bus driver picked up the carrier and led Jennifer out of the bathroom. She was quickly overwhelmed by how much bigger the other elementary school students were.
Finally, they arrived at a classroom. The bus driver pushed open the door.
“Jenny’s here.” She nudged Jennifer inside. Jennifer looked around, wondering why she was in a third grade classroom.
