…her mom’s car. Jennifer walked up to the car. Her mom got out.
“I don’t know why it takes you so long to get ready, Jenny. I mean, you used to be a teenager, I should be able to trust you to get ready on your own.”
“Sowwy,” Jennifer lisped as her mom buckled her into a car seat. Her mom got back in the driver’s seat. They pulled away from the house.
“If you need help getting ready, just ask. I don’t mind changing your diaper, dressing you, and helping with the rest of your morning routine. I did that when you were this little the first time. At this point, it won’t take any more time than it currently does. Just let me know.”
“Okay,” Jennifer mumbled. She was still reeling from the revelation that, however the world changed to account for her current age, it made it so that she was a teenager for a while. They pulled up in front of her mom’s workplace.
“We’re here.” Her mom sighed. “I’m so glad that my boss is letting you come with me to work while I figure out what to do with you. I mean, you can’t exactly go to high school anymore. You can’t go to the nurse every time you need a diaper change. You don’t always know you went. But you’d be so bored at a daycare…”
“Mom?” Jennifer said. After her mom said the thing about her not knowing when she used her diaper, she had looked down at her diaper, which wasn’t covered at all by her short skirt. It was visibly yellowed.
“Jenny, call me ‘Mommy’,” her mom instructed. “You’re too young to call me ‘Mom’ right now.”
“Mommy?”
“Yes?”
“I need a new diapy.” She hadn’t meant to mispronounce “diaper”. It must be part of the transformation.
“Okay, I’ll change you before we go inside.” Her mom came around, unbuckled her from the car seat, and then laid her on her back on the seat. “Here’s your binky, since you get so fussy during changes.” Her mom popped a pacifier into her mouth. Distracted by suckling on the pacifier, she didn’t even notice the diaper change. “All right, time to go inside.”
Jennifer’s mom carried her inside, along with a large diaper bag. Jennifer continued to suckle on the pacifier as they entered, wondering what being at her mom’s work for the day means.
