Annette's voice was shaky and fearful. Jamie had known her since they were kids and though Annette could get rather emotional, it still took a good deal to get a rise out of her. Pressing the issue further, Jamie asked...
"What did you thee?"
"I-I was...a c-clown..."
This wasn't good.
Annette hated clowns. Not just hate but was also terrified of them. When they were kids, they ventured into a haunted house exhibit at a carnival. The two braved through most of the scares until a bloodstained clown ran toward them. Annette was so terrified she needed to be carried out by her parents as she was a blubbering mess. T'was an awful day, though personally speaking, Jamie found Annette's crying more horrifying than the clown. The girl was an ugly blubberer, so much so, it grated on the ears. Speaking of which.
"*sniff* You said...you turned into that by looking at the mirror...*sniff* so am I...g-going to turn into..."
Annette couldn't finish the sentence before her phone pinged, it was a text from her mother. Jamie, in turn, breathed a sigh of relief. Aunt Anne's timely message saved her from a silver bullet. On the contrary, she was stricken full center when Annette screamed at the top of her lungs and threw the phone on the table. Glancing at it, Jamie was stunned.
"What the..."
Annette's phone screen was a photo of her and her boyfriend, Matt, at the beach and on the boardwalk, the night sky visible coupled with the light of the full moon. Now, however? They weren't at the beach anymore, rather two others were standing before a circus tent at night with numerous lights shining. Two clowns stood, one male, one female, arms over each other, and smiling brightly. Both were whiteface, the male one bearing a red clown nose, blushed red cheeks, a big red smile, and thin arched black eyebrows. He sported a big yellow afro and a one-piece jumpsuit, red on one side and white on the other, with a large ruffled neck collar along with wrist and ankle collars. Completing his attire was a pair of big orange and red floppy shoes, each with a smiley at the toe cap. The female clown had similar features, notably the red smile, red nose, and thin painted eyebrows. That's where it ended, however. If the two were an act than she was the leading lady. Her dress was of significantly higher quality than her male counterpart. It looked like a baby doll dress crossed with a princess gown. Possessing a pink and light blue color scheme with long poofy sleeves, a short white-collar, diamond patterns, and a long frilly skirt reaching down to her knees. Striped socks covered her legs while a pair of pink gloves concealed her hands. A pair of big floppy red mary janes took residence of her feet while her pink poofy hair was held together by a blue hairband.
No doubt about it. This was the life that awaited her friend.
Checking Aunt Anne's message, Jamie read it out loud to Annette, who was now cowering in the corner sobbing and hiding her face.
"hiya thillydoodle! just wanted to remind ya, we gotta gig tonight at the children'th hothpital! Athk yer cute boyfriend if he wantth to come along. I'th gonna be fun hyuck xoxo"
Annette bawled into her knees. "J-Jamie what am I gonna do?! I DON'T WANNA BE A *HYUCK* CL-" Annette immediately shut her mouth upon realizing the change in her voice. She now sounded like a dimwitted high pitched Minnie Mouse. Annette wanted to bawl more but instead of sobs she was now just letting out giggles. Rushing over to her Jamie hugged her.
"Don't worry Annette! I'm sure there's a way to get out of this. We just gotta mash our heads together!"
Raising her head, Annette looked her in the eye and asked with a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
"You're sure?!"
Jamie kept silent. For she was already bearing the red smile and red nose she saw in the photo.
