“Like, that thing is sooo bright Emma! I, like, can’t see anything!” Rhianna complained, blinking and once more brushing her long blonde hair out of her eyes. “And, um, is it supposed to be making all those noises?”
Emma stared at her best friend with a confused look on her face. “Like, why do you think I’d know anything about that? This thing is totes ancient. Like, a complete dinosaur, just like that jerk Mr. Andrews.” She replied.
Of course, neither girl knew—if even they’d remembered being Rick and Emily—that the camera was currently updating its “default” setting. The nature of a machine designed to alter reality meant that there had to be some constant— a baseline, if you will. After all, everything has a starting point.....and the machine was currently altering that starting point. It now identified Rhianna and Emma as the default forms of the two people in the room....which meant that even if they transformed into other people, the odds of them transforming back into the pair of ditzy blonde cheerleaders was much higher.
The camera continued to hum, beep and whirr, an odd purple light blinking in the corner, before, with a chime, it was once again ready for use. Emma carefully picked it up, worried that it would, like, explode or something, but after a couple minutes she decided it was probably okay and picked it up.
“Alright, so, like, we’re going to the mall to look for prom dresses and stuff, right? And then tonight we’re cheering with the rest of the girls at the football game?” She asked her friend. Rhianna nodded emphatically. “And then there’s Gavin’s party tonight, its going to be so fun!” She said with a giggle.
The two girls headed out to the bus stop in order to get to the mall. They’d already agreed that it was, like, totes unfair neither one of their parents had bought them a car, after all they were both sixteen. Regardless, with no car they were stuck riding the bus to get to the mall.
As the bus slowly made it’s way towards the mall, Emma continued to play with the camera. Hmm.....maybe she should take a few pictures, just to make sure it still worked? Rhianna was busily texting away on her phone—probably Gavin. Emma sighed. Her bestie was head over heels for that guy.
Glancing around the bus, she spotted a guy with greased hair and a leather jacket sitting across from her sneaking a glance at her. “Perv.” Emma scoffed as she took a picture, trying to catch him in the act.
FLASH
Emma glanced at the short, busty redhead across from who stared, bored, back at her. The woman was in her mid twenties and was dressed like a stripper, wearing a micro skirt, high heels and a low cut top. She strutted off the bus at the next stop with a smile and a wink for the rich looking businessman sitting near the driver.
Emma aimed the camera at a pair of boys talking about the football game towards the back of the bus....
FLASH
Emma smiled as she listened to the blonde twin sisters chatter about fashion and makeup behind her. They looked like slightly younger copies of her and Rhianna and she had no doubt that once they reached high school they’d be the newest members of the cheer squad.
Deciding against taking any more pictures—after all, she didn’t want the bus driver to come yell at her—Emma put the camera down on the seat next to her until, finally, they reached the mall.
Scooping it up she and Rhianna hurried off the bus. After all, they had a busy night tonight!
