Carefully sneaking over to the table, Rebecca snatched the camera up and hurried up the stairs with an evil grin. It was better to ask forgiveness than permission after all, she thought to herself, and with an old piece of junk like this chances were that her dad wouldn’t even notice it being gone.
As she made her way towards her room, she paused outside Paula’s room. With a wicked grin, Rebecca decided to burst in and take an embarrassing picture of her sister. After all, that’d serve her right for being such a little brat. She swung the door open and barged in, holding the camera up. Startled and wide eyed, Paula, who’d been coloring at her desk, stared up at her. Rebecca laughed at the shocked look on her sister’s face as she took the picture. Too funny!
FLASH
“WAAAH!”
Rebecca sword under her breath as she lowered the camera. Now she’d really done it! She’d come in here wanting to take a picture of her baby brother Paul with her Dad’s old camera, but she’d woke him up on accident and now it was going to take forever to get him to go back to sleep. That meant she’d be stuck babysitting Paul tonight instead of Dad calling a sitter like he usually did when he had to go into town overnight for his business meetings at the bank. She’d tried to tell him a million times that staying in town the night before didn’t make it more likely that he’d get an extra loan, but he insisted that showing he could afford to spend the money and “support the local community” would help convince the partners to agree to his proposal.
Sure enough, Emile was hurrying up the stairs to see what the matter was, rolling his eyes when he saw the sheepish look on Rebecca’s face. “Guess I won’t be needing to call Mrs. Evans to come babysit after all.” He said. Rebecca sighed and nodded.
A few hours later, Emile got into their rickety old Jeep and headed off into town, telling Rebecca he’d be back in the morning like usual. He wasn’t worried about leaving her home alone; town was only a twenty minute drive, and their neighbors would be dropping by every so often to check up on the kids. Besides, Rebecca was eighteen now. Why not give her a little freedom—within the bounds of her responsibilities, of course.
Rebecca, meanwhile, had finally gotten Paul back to sleep and was eagerly texting her friends Ashley, Sandy and Amanda to come over and keep her company. A half and hour later the girls had arrived at the farm house, with a couple of the local guys—Billy, Kevin, Joe and Nate—in tow. Rebecca smiled. Her dad would be mad she’d had guys over when he wasn’t there, but what he didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him, right?
As the night went on.....
