Really, Emma had her answer before she'd even opened the phone. As soon as the first news alert on the lock screen displayed a 'STAY AT HOME - COVER YOUR EARS' notice, she knew exactly what had resulted from their tryst. Opening up the news app and scrolling through some of the articles, Millie leaning over her shoulder to observe, was merely to determine the details of this strange new world they'd just created.
To say that the transformations were spreading like wildfire would have been an understatement. One of the estimates she spotted early in supposed that in less than twenty-four hours, over a billion people had ended up affected by this, and the numbers were going up at a constant rate. The video of Cherry's transformation - with sound muted, naturally - had amassed a staggering number of views, and in mere hours, an entire new genre of reaction videos featuring people on the internet reacting to their own transformation had sprung up. The entire population of the world had started to become unbalanced simply because every man who heard the song became a woman - more than a few jokes about the human penis being endangered were spread across the sites she was looking at.
The song, too, was filling up every video sharing site imaginable. If you couldn't step outside and hear it, you could hear it online, and be affected by its magical properties all the same. People were already experimenting with weaving it into other songs, remixes, and even meme videos - because of course it had wound its way into memes already. Somehow, that seemed about on par for the internet. Occasionally she would see the thumbnail for an address by some world leader, and be surprised to see the gorgeous woman they had become.
"So." Emma looked a bit shellshocked as she finally closed the phone and set it down on the table, slowly looking over to Millie. "We uh... we... we did a real big thing there, huh?"
Millie swallowed audibly. "Well... maybe... maybe this isn't so bad." She shrugged as she climbed around the sofa to sit next to her girlfriend. "At the rate it's going... pretty soon we'll be in a whole world of gay mermaids. That... that's not so bad, right?"
"I... guess?" She didn't look terribly convinced. "I mean, uh... what about all the trans men in the world? They're uh... they're not gonna be happy about... all of this."
"...oh. Right." She got quiet for a moment. "Well... maybe there's some... magic solution, or someting, out there for them. I mean... this is magic, so magic is definitely real, so... there's probably a way to fix it, right?"
"Maybe. I guess. Oh Christ this is weird." She groaned and reached up to rub her face. Yesterday her biggest problem had been figuring out how to pay for an engine tune-up; now she was sitting her, considering the ramifications of a massive change to the society and very physical makeup of the entire human race. One that had been unleashed by herself and her girlfriend, all because they were singing a magic song Millie had just happened to hear out near the ocean. Good grief, had her life suddenly gotten so very weird.
With a sigh she finally stood up, scratching at her waistband. These pants felt uncomfortable now - she couldn't reason out how they were going to get along this bizzare new world without some comfort. "I'm.... I'm gonna go turn back into a fish person and soak in the tub." File that under sentences she never expected to utter. "You... wanna come join me?"
"No duh!" She smiled very briefly at Millie's enthusiasm. This was all overwhelmingly freaky, but at the very least, she could rely on the love of her life to be there for her. She only hoped that would be enough to keep her sane when someone eventually figured out that they had been responsible for causing a cataclysm - if someone hadn't already pegged them as the culprits already.
