You decide to head to the large barn with the giraffes that you can see in the center of the habitats. Odd, you must have missed it on the map. You take a leisurely stroll with the crowds, keeping your head on a swivel as you take in the cute architecture and buildings meant to mimic Africa. You roll your eyes as you pass the ice cream hut with a straw roof.
Eventually, you reach the high steel fence that contains the giraffes and a huge metallic stable of sorts that people can enter to get a closer look at the animals if they're inside. It's a sunny day at the pungent aroma of the gentle giants catches your nose immediately. It's not particularly unpleasant, just strong. One of the animals is strolling the large enclosure and looks to be female. The remaining three males are licking parts of the barn and the railing. You watch them for a while and wonder why they do that, and then turn your attention to the female giraffe.
The female is looking right at you. As the crowd surrounding the fence seems to fade away for a time, the female gently approaches you with elegant lifts of her hooves and stares down at you with an expression of either interest of curiosity. She sniffs the air and you catch her purposely glancing from side to side to make sure nobody else is paying attention. You've never seen an animal (or a giraffe) behave like this, so it's a little strange.
After a moment of staring at other, the giraffe eventually bends her long neck down and meets you at eye level. You're stunned as she does something completely unexpected.
