It was getting late, and all the tourists were headed to their campsites, cabins, or back to the city to their hotel rooms. Auria the only ranger that stays by the station basically 24/7 outside of emergencies locked the welcome center up, and took a stretch and took a seat on the bench. She was an old elf and staring at the sky made her a little sad. For the majority of her life the sky had always been full of twinkling stars, and then the upstart humans discovered what you could do by burning coal... Then developed it some more, and then filled their cities with lights, and then extended their light cities to the sky all while the stars in the sky got harder and harder to spot. Then again least they knew where to not develop. They left many areas of the wild alone for purposes of aesthetics, respect, and the fact that a steep rough mountain with no real resources and was infested with harpies was probably not a good place to settle down in.
This thought was getting Auria a little sentimental remembering her nomadic early life with her old tribe. Skirting around the mountain range and stealing some harpy eggs. They were delicious, but now she was "civilized" and now had to make sure all the eggs weren't poached by poachers... That little "law" made her upset as her tribe "stealing" the eggs of an "endangered" species had been natural for a lot longer than she'd even been alive. How many harpies did they think a barren mountain could really support? Eventually there would be too many and some would come wandering down to hunt all the "civilized" races. Then Auria saw a shadow in the sky... a bit of a blob but... Was that three harpies carrying some humanoid down the mountain away from any nest they had?
Auria knew she needed to get a better look so she inside and grabbed some binoculars. Combined with her elven eyes she got a better sight of a naked man being carried by... Auria cleaned the lenses of the binoculars and took another look. Those things had wings, feathers, and talons of harpies... but their faces and general bodies were too human to really be harpies. Although they seemed to be more gliding down and... Auria was spotted and those whatever they were seemed to be gliding towards her. Auria prepared a quick bolt spell, and then they started to drop at a steeper angle...
Domonic woke up on a not so comfortable bed which was all white and... seemed more like a table with some padding you may see at a school nurse's office. Trying to get up his body felt so sore... Looking at his body being wrapped up with so many bandages. Summoning enough strength he managed to get himself standing on his own feet. He stumbled his way into a hallway at which point the hallway light lit up and down the hallway was a short haired, tall woman with pointy ears. She had a tired look on her face and she sighed and said "Back to our nurse office, was just getting your... Harpy friends to settle down and..."
Domonic weak on his legs asked "who?"
"Park Ranger here at Harpy Mountain National Park, going to give you some recovery magic to speed up your recovery." Auria got to Domonic and helped him back onto the stiff first aid bench they had. She then focused some of her magic power in the right formation and with a glow from her hand Domonic's body started to mend itself faster. For sure he'd be sore and a little fragile for awhile, but he should be in enough piece to walk and undergo some questioning in the morning. She walked over to her living quarters and saw the trio of human-like harpies laying hudled together in the mini-nest they had with her bed's blankets. She quickly got changed and then crossed her legs on the bed and went into her trance with her mind slightly on the Harpies. They may seem not aggressive now, but the often food starved creatures were naturally aggressive in temperament and it could be very easy for them to lure prey into a false sense of security and then kill them in their sleep. Well if they think they could get her let them try, she'd be eating fried wings in the morning.
