The next day, Robert and Victoria completed their try outs for the football and volleyball teams after impressing the the school coaches the day before.
The two teens breezed through the try outs as expected, thanks to their now much more athletic bodies and minds that meant even the rules of once unfamiliar sports became quite quickly understood.
The once timid and tiny Robert had always shyed away from the rougher and tougher boys of the school’s football team that he encountered in its many corridors and classrooms. But he now relished every opportunity to outrun or overpower his new teammates during their first practice together whilst at the same time enjoying the sense of comraderie in the locker room afterwards that come from winning their respect and admiration for his sporting abilities.
As he towled off after a shower and listened to his new friends coarsely discussing sports and girls, he took a moment to reflect on how different their chat was to the intellectual and academic-focused conversations he usually experienced with his old nerdy pals. But that didn’t mean he enjoyed it any less, even if he did have very little to contribute for now.
He instead quietly took in the physiques of his new teammates and realised that he had packed enough new height and muscle mass in just a couple of gym sessions to physically match at least half of the them. And he knew that it only would only take one or two more sessions before he would be able square up to the biggest guys in the team.
He couldn’t wait to head back to the gym after school today and see what exercises Cassie had in store.
