“So...ahhhh.....umm.... I guess we need to talk,” Joe had walked in while Jake was reeling from his revelation.
Jake looked at his brother, the amazingly average pudgy-skinny twenty-three year old with a whisp of hair on his undeveloped chest, no facial hair, and slicked back black hair tied in a “man-bun”. Then Jake looked back at a particularly compromising picture of Pops on the phone.
“You can close your mouth, I’m not into that right now,” Joe’s joke fell flat.
Jake looked at his brother then back at the phone. “So.....you’re gay now?”
“Nah, bro, I’m straight. Hetro as they come. You know I’m dating Stacy and that we’re pretty serious.”
“But....” Jake gestured at the phone.
“Look, it’s all part of the vacation package they have. You spend a week as a bear version of yourself, having as much ‘fun’” he accentuated with air quotes, “as you want with no repercussions. It’s a total vacation from your life.”
Jake looked quizzically at Joe. “So to get it up you were fantasizing about Stacy while you were fooling around with these bear-guys?”
“I never thought of Stacy all, I wouldn’t have been interested in her anyway. I didn’t think of my ‘normal’ life, really. Stacy, you, Mom and dad, Clarence - none of those are part of Poppa Bear’s life. “So you’re not straight?” Jake was still confused.
“Bro, I’m straight. Stacy can more than tell you that. But Big Poppa, the daddy muscle bear is as gay as they come. Look, it’s confusing to me, and I went through it for a whole week.”
Jake had to admit to himself, becoming something that far removed from himself was starting to sound interesting. “So how do they do it? Change you, I mean. Did it hurt?”
