...his eldest son, Dominic. He'd gotten the car right, but now–
"You okay? You fell silent all of the sudden. Do you need me to drive you home?"
Dominic was staring at him oddly, and Evan blanched. What was he going to say? Admitting he'd transformed to his wife was one thing, but this...
Dominic was 18, and a senior in high school. Since Evan's own father had sent him off to military school, he'd tried to be more relaxed with his own parenting, but he knew he still pushed his sons a lot. Dominic was a straight A student, and the captain of the swim team, and Evan had spent all year pushing him to get ahead on his college applications. He'd always thought his eldest son was a good kid. Now, though, he'd found him borrowing the car to sneak out late at night and do god knows what. He looked into the car to see if he could spot any clues.
No luck. All he could make out in the dark was Dominic himself. The kid was taller than Evan had been even before the change, something he had always been proud of as a dad, with short black hair and dark gray-green eyes. He was dressed differently than usual, though, in a tight V neck shirt which clung to his swimmer's muscles and a black leather jacket.
He was also, Evan realized, still staring expectantly at him.
"Uhhh," he managed, "I'm okay. I was just, uh. Out clubbing."
"Alone?" Dominic asked, "A pretty thing like you?"
Evan froze. Pretty? Did his son think he was a girl, or...? He shoved the thought aside. Surely he just looked feminine enough that Dominic thought he was a lady. He was no homophobe, but his sons weren't gay. Dominic had a girlfriend at school! He'd met her! But...did that mean he was cheating on her? He shook his head. God, this was all so much to process...
"Well, yes," he responded, keeping his voice level, "I'm just..."
He paused. What could he say? If he told Dominic he needed a ride home, he'd have to give his own address.
"Hey, do you not have a place to go?" his son said, voice kind but eyes oddly hungry, "You could come home with me, if you want."
