Alec could barely breathe as he watched his original body. There was a pool of blood forming under it. It was getting larger… still growing… alongside his panic. When he couldn't take it anymore, he put his head on his chest and heard nothing. Alec never learned how to perform CPR (and with wings instead of arms it probably wouldn't work, anyways), but he still tried his best trying to revive his body. He didn't notice when he started crying and it took him even longer to notice the tears falling onto the corpse. Eventually he gave up and fell back, sitting on the ground and hugging his harpy body with his wings.
What was Alec supposed to do now? Not even a full day and he got killed and now he was probably stuck in the body of a horny harpy. Would he be this way for the rest of his (or rather her) life? Would the people in town accept him, if they even allowed him to tell his story? And then there was the matter of the other harpy that was still waiting outside probably giving her companion some privacy to fertilize her eggs. One thing was for sure though, the farmer would definitely not take the time to listen to him with a corpse lying right beside him. He had to leave, the quest already forgotten.
Alec took another look at his dead body. Walking over to it he made a tough decision. Carefully he tried to take off the shirt and shorts of his dead body, not like this body would need those anymore. Using his wings still proved too finicky, so he used his talons to remove them while trying not to make too many additional tears. There was a voice in his head telling him it might not be too late to try and do it with the body, but the thought was so revolting that resisting was easy. He even decided to pick up the rusty knife, although it likely won't be of much use to him.
Once Alec was certain that all his possessions were secured in his talon, it was time for the most difficult part of his escape, flying. Not really knowing what to do he just started flapping his wings and lo and behold, he actually managed to lift off the ground. Surprisingly enough it took him only about a minute to master flying, as if the knowledge was hardcoded into the harpy’s body.
With that he took off. He flew out of the barn window with as much speed as he could muster. When leaving he heard a surprised squawk followed by several shouts to slow down or wait up from the other harpy, but he ignored them all, only wanting to put as much distance between himself and that place. After some time he decided to take a turn toward a forest he spotted and in there he found a dry cave to hide in.
That's where he would spend the next few days. Most of the time he would sit in a dark corner and mourn the death of his body. Only when hungry would he leave the cave to collect some fruits from nearby trees. During the nights he started to either have nightmares in which Alec in his human body was chased by the harpy he now inhabited or weird memories of events he certainly never experienced like hatching out of an egg or playing with other harpies.
After a couple of days he decided to take up a little project to take off his mind from the grieving, using the knife and her… eh, his talons (he noticed she started to refer to himself as female more and more often, but somehow wasn't bothered by it) to turn the human clothes into something a harpy could wear. If he was to try and re-enter human society in this body, it would probably make a better impression if she didn't flash everyone with her naked bits. For the pants he had to make some cuts so they would even fit around her larger hips, a hole in the back for his tail feathers and shorten them so they wouldn't tangle up in her talons while flying. Ultimately what was left of the shorts were pretty much a pair of hotpants that at least covered the most important parts. The shirt wasn't so lucky though. Mostly torn and bloodied, she could only salvage a large strip of it to tie around his chest as a makeshift strapless bra.
He didn't know how much time she had ultimately spent in that forest, but with the clothes done she finally found some determination to finally leave this cave. His original body had likely already been found and buried at this point. It was time now, god had sent her to this world to have another chance at life and she wouldn't waste it in a cave. Even if Alec had no idea yet where she wanted to go or what he wanted to do.
