The next week was the happiest in the history of Albert Cashier High School. The teachers and staff just radiated joy, and it seemed like every hour someone was announcing their engagement, their divorce (but divorces that cleared the way for something better) or coming out of the closet. The most dramatic day was Tuesday, when the dance teacher Ms. Valderrez announced plans to transition to male, followed by the football coach announcing (first to the team, then to the school at large) that henceforward he would be dressing and living as a woman named Rosa (she/her) followed in the late afternoon by the two issuing invitations to their engagement party.
Maggie narrowed her eyes at Taylor. "I swear Maggie, that wasn't me. It's just that once they started talking about why they were soulmates, it became increasingly obvious to both of them that it would be a lot easier to go through this with someone who had your back. So why put it off?"
In the excitement no one except Taylor and Maggie noticed that Ms. Savile had started bringing a doughnut seat to work.
