Over the rest of the weekend, Derrick enjoyed his time doing what he wanted, ever accompanied by his brother turned human toy Tanner, his neighbor and Tannerīs friend also turned human toy Jeremy and their other friend turned dog toy Phil. It was only when their parents returned Sunday evening that a problem turned up.
As they never altered reality, his father didnīt recognize Derrick. Who are you? And where are my sons?
Derrick was far from a coward, but how to explain himself, let alone Tanner? But wasnīt there something they could have done so nobody noticed? In lack of any good explanation, he replied: Iīm a friend of Tannerīs, called Derrick like your other son. Tanner is out, he has forgotten something with a friend he is getting, and Derrick should be in the bathroom.
Luckily, his father believed him for now, and Derrick excused himself to go look for Derrick, or better, himself. Reaching the computer, he quickly found what they had forgotten to select, and altered reality for himself so that nobody would question who he was again.
But as Derrick wanted to restore at least his brother for now, he encountered an error. It didnīt take long to realize that he couldnīt simply restore Tanner to human, at least not his old self. Even if he could make him human again, due to his alterations Tanner had no memories of being his brother, or even human. And he had no back-ups of these things.
A quick look over the data showed him that the same applied towards his other new toys, he could neither restore Phil nor Jeremy to normal. Phil was even worse, as he had no way restoring his original form.
Derrick sat there, looking guilty at the three toys standing in front of him. He had no way to change them back. It should have been a funny prank on Tanner, and as he had added the other two, he still found it funny. But now, he felt extremely guilty. But as he could do nothing to restore them, he had only one option left for them, which was remaining as they are.
So, with a heavy heart, Derrick applied the reality altering feature for Tannerīs, Philīs and Jeremyīs profiles, erasing their old lives from everyoneīs memories but himself. He had toyed with erasing his own memories as well, but then he would see the three as simple, and most certainly, replaceable toys. And in his guilt, he couldnīt do that.
So, when he returned downstairs to his parents with the three toys in his pocket, he was an only child now. Later after a short dinner, as he went back into his room, he created a simple backstory for Tanner, Phil and Jeremy as his toys, and made sure nobody would question why a boy his age would keep toys with him.
