The ray hit a mirror and ricocheted off the surface, hitting everything in the apartment. Mia and Makenna rubbed their eyes to clear away the afterimages. When they could see again, their jaws dropped. The kitchen had transformed into a playroom. The microwave and fridge were the same, but the stove had turned into an Easy Bake Oven. Mia opened a cabinet. It was filled with plastic dishware.
“All the food is for kids,” Makenna said, looking in the fridge. “Chicken nuggets, juice.” Mia looked at the counter. The chef’s knives were replaced with plastic toy knives that kids would use to pretend they were cooking.
“Didn’t the gun hit everything else?” Mia asked suddenly. She and Makenna bolted for their respective bedrooms. Mia’s bedroom had been transformed into one belonging to a toddler, but her size. Even the clothes in her dresser were toddler designs. She opened her underwear drawer and shuddered. Everything had been replaced with training pants and diapers.
Makenna, meanwhile, discovered her room had turned into a nursery. Everything had adjusted to be for a baby, but her size. Her bed had been replaced with a crib, her dresser was full of onesies and diapers, and there was even a baby bouncer in the corner that she could tell she would be able to fit into.
Their dread growing, the two girls met in the living room, which, like the kitchen, now looked like a playroom, but with things that weren’t kitchen-themed. When they turned the TV on, they could only get kids’ channels. All furniture items were soft and child-safe. Books had turned into picture books, and just about everything else had turned into kids’ toys.
“If this is what happened to the living room, what happened to the bathroom?” Makenna asked. They quickly rushed to the bathroom. The shower had turned into a tub, there was a stepstool by the sink, the decorations were incredibly immature and childish, but the worst part was what had happened to the toilet. The toilet had been replaced by a diaper changing station and toddler training potty, though both would comfortably fit Mia and Makenna.
“Oh, no,” Mia breathed. She shook her head. “We need to change things back, right away!”
“I agree,” Makenna said. They went back into the kitchen. Mia picked up the gun. Before she could adjust the settings, her finger slipped and she hit the trigger. A ray shot out, hitting the mirror again. This time, though, the ray fractured into two, and both Mia and Makenna were hit.
When the light faded, the girls were dressed in attire that suited the new clothing in their dressers: Mia wore training pants and a toddler dress, while Makenna was in a diaper and onesie. Makenna’s pacifier from before had also come back.
Unfortunately, they both discovered that they now matched their new attire, when…
