Alec doesn't know why but it seems he grew attached to Eric's life. He has all the time in the world to possess rich and powerful people so why hurry? And besides, living the perspective of an honest joe living in this river called life has its meager merits.
Alec did Eric's morning routine and grabbed breakfast from the local coffee place. There thick burly guy inside who greeted him and invited him for coffee. Alec thanked the sentiment but he must be going now. He ditched last night's rotation of the job and his co-workers might be fuming with him.
That was not the case however as his co-workers immediately asked if he was alright when he timed in on the job. He was gone for hours. No reminders, zero contact, total blackout. Omid, one of the senior social worker, was worried sick. Their best worker was gone and they were worried that he got stuck under last night's storm.
Alec made an excuse that he lost his walkie-talkie and he was stuck in a shed when the storms hit. Seeing that the storm won't stop, he ran for his motorcycle and went home to change. He wanted to get back to work but the storm was relentless and going out means a death sentence for him. His co-workers immediately forgave Alec then asked him to compensate by working harder today.
The work of a social service guy wasn't that hard. Other than fieldwork, Eric is mostly stuck carrying provisions from one place in the center to the other. Sometimes, he'd help to distribute supplies to the homeless. And boy, there is a lot of them in the center today. They are cramped but they are organized in the line for soup. Alec helped in distributing them amongst the hungry men and women.
When the job was done, a group of drifters invited him over lunch. Alec grabbed a bowl of soup and joined them in their circle of conversation.
These groups are called drifters, meaning they don't stay in place for long. With the Autumn ending, they need to travel down South where it's warm. Alec invited them to stay in the shelter but the Drifters don't want to overstay their welcome. The shelter is already full as it is. They thanked Alec for inviting them to the shelter a few days before, and he returned it with a welcome, even though it was Eric who did it.
After lunch, Alec presented himself with a choice. He could stay here and live Eric's life a little longer, or he could possess one of the drifters and join in on their journey down South. What did Alec choose?
