Emma didn’t understand why she was so tired all of a sudden. Maybe it was a better idea to hand it over to Lexi. As she started to hand it to her niece, it slipped out of her hands and fell to the floor facing her uncle and his family. Out of the corner of her eye Emma noticed Rhianna gasp.
Uh-Oh.
FLASH
Her uncle Tom carefully picked the camera up off the floor, looking it over. “Well, it doesn’t seem to be damaged” he said after a minute. “You should be more careful with this kind of equipment though.” Emma nodded apologetically. She knew her uncle worked at an electronics repair store and knew what he was talking about when it came to technology.
“Hey dad? Is it alright if I go dress shopping with them? I need to find a prom dress of my own.” Emma’s cousin Gloria asked, fiddling with her curly red hair as she did so. Gloria was the same age as Emma and Rhianna and often hung out with them. The three girls had spent spent countless hours tanning at Rhianna’s family’s pool talking about boys, clothes, school and whatever else came to mind.
Tom raised an eyebrow. “If it’s okay with your mother.....” he started, turning towards his wife. Lexi’s green eyes twinkled as she brushed her long, jet black hair back. “Sure. Have fun girls. Don’t spend too much of your father’s money” she teased. “Hey!” Tim jokingly responded, causing the girls to giggle.
“Mom? Dad? Since Gloria’s going shopping with cousin Emma and Rhianna now, does that mean we can go to Gamestop?” the fourth member of the family, Gloria’s younger brother Justin, asked. He had spiky brown hair and was wearing a football jersey and gym shorts. “They just released the new Madden game, and I want to see if they have in stock yet. Or even a strategy guide. I’m definitely going to win the tournament this year!” the twelve year old boy exclaimed excitedly.
“Well.....I don’t see why not.” Tom responded. He turned to Lexi. “Do you think you can stand a half an hour trip to the video game store?” Lexi smiled back. “I’m sure I can.....as long as you make it up to me later” she teased, adding the latter part so softly only Tom heard her. He winked at his wife, already looking forward to it.
Glancing at his watch, Tom said “you girls better get a move on if you want to finish shopping before you have to head over to the school.” With startled expressions Rhianna and Emma checked their phones, said their farewells, and hurried off towards the dress store with Gloria joining them after saying goodbye to her parents.
“Kids these days.” Lexi joked as she watched the girls walk into the store—only for Rhianna to suddenly stop and started flirting with a teenage boy who was sitting on a bench nearby, judging by the amount of hair twirling and giggling she was doing at whatever he’d said. Gloria came back out and coaxed her friend into the store, with the door shutting solidly behind them.
