“Where are we going?” she asked as she struggled to keep pace with me.
“Well I thought about people watching, but because you seem like you are having a rough day so we are going clothes shopping.” I said. She rolled her eyes at my idea. “O come on, you don’t like the idea of finding something else to wear? You are wearing clothes that are the equivalent of white bread.” She stopped in her tracks only to rush to catch up to me. I did have a point she wore plain sneakers, plain faded jeans, a plain t-shirt, and that was it.
“Fine....” She begrudgingly agreed. “But I get to pick what I want.”
“Deal.” I said as I stopped for a second and looked around. I spotted one of those stores that sells a bunch of goth and metal clothing. “Perfect I thought to myself.”
“Let’s go.” I said as I began walking towards the store. Sam again had to scurry to catch up. As I walked I imagined how much fun and torture this would be for the former stud athlete.
Sam realized where we were going before we even got there. “Can’t we go somewhere else.” She whined.
“Nope. You have to get at least one article of clothing here. It can be your choice, but we are getting you something to spruce up your current outfit.” I said ushering her into the store.
As we looked through the store if became quite apparent that there were limited options for stuff that would fit her. It didn’t help that she shot down most of things that I suggested to her. It didn’t matter I was having fun with this. I was constantly grabbing things down for her because she couldn’t reach them. I had to help her pull clothing off the rack, because she was too weak to move a bunch of shirts at once. Each time I helped I could see in her eyes it was a punch in the gut. I could also see another twinkle in her eyes, but I couldn’t figure out what it was.
After multiple trips around the store all we had was a black choker necklace and pair of black overalls. “Last chance if you want to get something else.” I told Sam. She shrugged her shoulders resigned to her fate. As I checked out I began thinking about how she is becoming less combative and more defeated. She was finally getting what she deserved.
“It would be kind of funny if she had to wear these poor fitting overalls around though.” I thought while I was waiting.
Checking out the cashier offered to let her wear the overalls out and surprisingly Sam accepted the off.
