"So, the question is, do we just start picking spells... or do we all work together and translate as much as possible?" Mark asked.
"Ugh, it's like obvious!" Steph screamed, swiping the book up from off the table. "We don't need to wait, we just need to get lucky." She yelled, as she flipped to a random page. "$%#@^#" An incomprehensible bit of gibberish flung from her mouth, and then the whole room lit p with an incredibly bright flash of light.
The family all stood where they were, finding themselves blinking rapidly once more to clear the brightness from their eyes. They looked around, and noticed that neither their bodies nor their lives seemed to change.
"Huh, does anyone notice anything different?" Alana asked, standing up to check her body.
"No... huh, nothing changed." Steph sighed.
"Wow, I thought you'd be more nervous than that Steph." Jake joked.
"Well, not really cause... oh shit." She gasped. "Oh that's what it did."

"No but that's, like, the thing Dad!" She realized. "Like, I'm supposed to be some old guy." She silently mumbled.
"What're you ta-" Alana began before she thought herself. Suddenly, she also remembered she should be someone else. "My goodness you're right... I was a teenager a few days ago." She said, placing her hand over her mouth in surprise.
"What are you girls talking about?" Mark asked. "Alana, you're my wife not... wait, wait I think I'm getting that too... I was... a little boy or a little girl I think... closer to Jake's age maybe."
"Wait, so what does that mean?" Jake asked.
"Like, it's obvious doofus!" Steph teased her brother. "This thing changed us before, but then we couldn't tell how... so like, I think it's letting us know who we should be."
"So, this isn't really who we are?" Jake asked.
"I guess not... but like, it still feels like us." Steph added.
Mark and Alana locked eyes, wondering what they should do. They stared for a minute more before both nodded, seemingly both agreeing to the same idea.
That's when...
