Malice has had a long time to imagine her first college party. She had heard about how wild they could be and it sounded like it would be very fun. However, her first party won't be like she imagined. For one thing, Simon wouldn't be there. Police academies aren't likely to let students have days off so they can go to a frat party. But probably the biggest factor is the pandemic. Yes, it was starting to slow down with hopeful signs of a vaccine in the near future. Word was that the Animalian version of the vaccine was progressing at a reasonable rate. But still, it wouldn't likely be the wild parties Malice had heard about.
Still, she could at least participate a little in it. There were plenty of decorations to put up; plastic bats, pumpkins, fake spiderwebs. Not that much different from the Halloween decorations she saw back in Lyre. It felt pretty underwhelming for Malice so she decided to see if there was any real party stuff being planned. Talking to Tiffany had stopped being awkward long before now. Their old rivalry over Simon was naught but a distant memory to laugh about now.
"Hey there, Tiffany,:" said Malice, "How goes the party plans?"
"Party plans?" asked Tiffany.
"You know, for Halloween," said Malice, "We are having a Halloween party, right?"
"Well...there's no strict rule against it, but considering we shouldn't be gathering in enclosed spaces..." said Tiffany.
Malice's ears drooped. "No party?" she asked.
"Not the kind you're probably thinking of," said Tiffany, "But, we'll have a few things going on."
"Such as?" asked Malice.
"We'll still have a costume contest," said Tiffany, "We might be going out anywhere, but we can still post what we're wearing. There are several categories to win in: creativity, scariness, sexiness..."
"I bet I can guess what most of our people will be gunning for," said Malice. She had a naughty cop costume for just this occasion. The police academy Simon was at required him to be more professional as a police officer, but Malice wasn't a student there yet. It may take her a year to transfer to the academy though. But at least she could have fun at the PET House.
"There's also going to be a snack table at the student lounge, but you know it is these days," said Tiffany.
"Yeah, yeah, everyone maintaining their distances," grumbled Malice.
"But at least we'll be showing some movies," said Tiffany.
"Any in particular?" asked Malice.
"I've heard a lot about 'The Witches' lately and I've got an HBO Max subscription," said Tiffany.
"Sounds kinda interesting..." said Malice thoughtfully. She wondered if PET House even had any mouse students.
"I know it may sound kinda dull overall, but wait until next year when there's no more quarantining to worry about," said Tiffany.
"Yeah, next year will have a lot of making up to do," said Malice.
