Jeff and Mike both walked into the school. Mike taken aback by the amount of students that flooded the hallways. As Jeff dragged a smiling Mike through the hall, they were stopped by Jeff’s group of friends.
“Yo Jeff,” yelled one of the friends. Jeff looked at his father for a second and then moved to meet his friends. “Who’s the girl?” asked another person in the group. “You finally got a girlfriend?” joked a friend.
“Hi,” said Mike, acting shyly in front of the group. “What’s your name, cutie?” asked one of the female friends. Jeff walked back to his father, now standing at his side. Mike looked at him for assistance. “Make something up,” Jeff mouthed, hoping his friends wouldn’t hear him.
“My name is Mikayla,” she said. “He’s my cousin. I’m visiting for a week.” Before anyone was able to say anything, the bell rang and the group went to their classes. Jeff lightly grabbed Mikayla’s arm and took her to his first class.
The school day itself was ultimately uneventful, except for boys and some girls fawning over the new girl in class. Everyone was waiting for their chance to even talk to her. It was evident that Mikayla liked the new attention, even flirting back with some of the students, but Jeff wasn’t. He knew the truth, the girl that everyone was in love with was a man, his own father.
After the final bell rang and everyone was dismissed for the day, Jeff and Mikayla sat in the car. “How was your first day, dad?” Jeff asked Mikayla. “It was really good, especially with all the people looking at me all day,” she replied, smiling. “I can’t wait for tomorrow.” With that, they drove away from the school, and the first day of school had been completed.
