I decided to do the gardening first. Picking up a spade and some seedling flowers, I went out into my yard. These were nice flowers, geraniums, not cheap like the
ones whatever bastard had sent me. I started to plant them when I noticed something interesting in the dirt, a footprint. It wasn't a human footprint, that was for
sure. It looked like it was from some sort of large dog. Hmm, I thought, probably just some neighbor's dog wandering around. I finished planting the flowers and
headed back into the house. When I reached the back door, I was shocked to find that there were deep gouges in it, as if made by claws. But these were certainly
not made by any neighborhood dog. Then, it clicked in my mind. The news reports had said there were a series of killings caused by an escaped animal. The
animal must be in our neighborhood!
