The sound of Nora's doorbell camera going off quickly brought the elderly woman to the front door. The 82 year old woman had been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this package. As she opened the front door a smile spread across her face. "Its finally here."
Grabbing the package Nora quickly made her way into her living room. At 82 years of age Nora could best be described as a spinster. She had never married, instead being focused on her work. While she had never really considered herself lonely, those feelings had begun to change over the last few years. Nora's advocacy group had forced the woman out after she had built it from the ground up. While at first angry, she made her peace, deciding to enjoy a quiet retirement. This too would lead to heartbreak as the woman had been diagnosed with cancer. According to her doctors she had only monthes to live, monthes that she knew would be filled with pain and suffering.
Trying to avoid this painful fate, Nora had searched for any cure. When Nora had found a pocket watch that could make her young, she immediately made the purchase. Now tearing through the package, Nora now quickly read through the instructions before gazing at the pocket watch.
"According to what it says all I need to do is turn it on," she said. Nora quickly bow studied the watch carefully, noticing a few different options such as self, family, and time. Next to these switches was a switch that would determine the speed of the watch as well as a start and stop switch.
"This is foolish," she sighed. "This cant possibly work can it?"
Biting her lip apprehensively Nora now pressed the start button. Slowly she now watched as the watches dial began to move backwards.
"I wonder how long this will take," she thought as the watch moved backwards. Watching the dial she watched as it completed one full revolution. As it did Nora heard a distinct beep aound from the watch. Looking closer Nora now could see a small display at the bottom of the watches face.
"82 years and 5 monthes," she whispered. Nora was at first confused, what was the display for? After a moment it came together. She was 82 years old, yet her birthday was 6 monthes ago, not 5. "Wait did I just become a month younger," she said.
Gazing down at the watch, she realized she had missed a few rotations, thevwatch now read 82 years 2 monthes. "Well this is going to take forever at this rate," she sighed.
Looking at the watch, Nora now began examining the speed options. Perhaps she should speed up the process, afterall she had plenty of years to spare. Clicking the speed option a few times, Nora now began to study the watch once more.
While the speed of the dial hadn't changed, Nora did notice the years and days seemed to be falling away at a much quicker rate. Now, with every rotation Nora was losing a full year.
Nora looked into the mirror as she crossed back into her 70s. It was still impossible to tell if this was working. Clicking the speed option again Nora watched as with every rotation she would lose 2 years. Starting at 78, she watched as she became 76, then 74, as she hit 72 she began to look more closely at her face.
Slowly the old womans eyes grew wide. Did she have fewer wrinkles? Was her grey hair becoming chestnut brown once more? Looking down at the watch she watched as she left her 70s and reentered her 60s.
"It cant be," she whispered. "Its impossible!"
Despite Nora's disbelief, the evidence was plain. She looked younger, felt better than she had in years. Looking herself over carefully she could see her chestnut brown hair returning, the wrinkles smoothing. Grasping her chest she was astounded to feel them filling once more. She was becoming younger, healthier, more vibrant with each rotation.
Looking at the dial, Nora could see she was 60 once more. Nora's body was filling once more, the frail old woman regaining her lost curves and vitality. Giggling almost girlishly, Nora spun in a circle, feeling as if she was reborn.
"Its a miracle," she laughed. "It worked, it actually worked! I'm growing younger."
Nora couldnt be happier, crossing back into her 50s. She was becoming a young woman once more. Just how young though was she willing to become?
