In the morning, she made an appointment with the specialist, after getting a referral from her regular doctor. She showered and pulled on her bathrobe before sitting on the couch to watch TV. She wasn't really sure what to wear, maybe Jake's dumb hoodie- she should be able to conceal her new arms under that.
"This is a SNN (Some News Network) special report. Several cases of STS have occurred at the Northeast Shopping Center in the City yesterday at about 1:30 pm. No one saw the events themselves, just the aftermath. Such cases are rare to begin with, but the fact that several occurred at the same time, within close proximity to each other, is unprecedented. The identities of those affected have not been released at this time, and it is not yet known how many people have been changed. If this has happened to you, you are urged to call 866-284-3523, the National STS Hotline. The contents of calls made to that line are confidential, and social workers are ready to help you now. Otherwise, call your personal health care physician to be referred to a specialist. Back to you, Marion."
"Thanks Ted. It's important to note that if you, or a loved one, suffer from STS, it's imperative that you realize you are not a freak or a monster. You're a human being, no matter how you have been changed. While there are those who will demonize or abuse you, you have rights, and those rights are protected by the 28th and 29th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, as ratified by Congress. There are people who can help and support you. Ted, your sister has STS, doesn't she?"
"That's right, Marion. The incident happened about four years ago, but she's learned how to live a happy life, and has even gone back to her job as a teacher. Some people react negatively to the wings, but her studens and their parents love her just as much as we do..."
"Ugh." Amy switched off the TV. "I can't even with this." She wondered if she should call the Hotline, or just go to her appointment.
