After seeing Elizabeth, Natalie scheduled her next appointment, and handed her a card with the date and time. It wasn't until she got home that she noticed a phone number had been written on the back. 'If you need someone to talk to- Nat'. She couldn't explain why she'd called at 3 am, but she did, and she'd ended up at Natalie's apartment for coffee. They talked until very late (or early, depending on your point of view). With her kids grown, and not really fitting in with most adults, it turned out Nat was very lonely. When she wasn't working, she played games online, where she could hide behind a mask of anonymity.
Nat didn't go home that day. Or the next. When she finally did, it was only to get her things out. She moved in officially on the fourth day, and by the fifth, she moved from Nat's couch to her bed. Neither one of them was a lesbian, but there was no way they could have a normal sex life. And there was definitely chemistry between them, something more profound than friendship.
The first kiss had been spontaneous, and Amy had been frightened. But it turned into a frantic makeout session. Their first attempt at lovemaking had been tentative, cautious, and more than a little embarrassing, but the second was a lot better. By the fourth, they were old pros.
Jake was in the past, and Amy had started a new tech support job, something she could do from home. Nat's kids had been dubious about her when they'd first met, but ultimately, they saw how happy their mother was, and now, six months later, she was part of the family. There had been quite a few more STS outbreaks since then. The government was investigating, but they hadn't gotten much in the way of leads.
There were crazy theories that it was deliberate, like there was some magical terrorist out there. But even if that were true, Amy didn't hate the person. Her life had changed. But as she sat on the couch, cradling the tiny body of her lover with her arms, she no longer cared. She was happy.
