You reach forward and pause, then reach forward and defiantly take the rock. Clia sighs, having known this would be your choice once you didn't take the starfish. You frown at her apologetically and say, "I'm sorry, Clia. I just can't throw away the life I have, as much as I may want to. I just can't take such a drastic change in my life, I'm sorry."
Shaking her head, she looks to you sadly and finally nods, sadly. "As is your choice, so it shall be. As I said, you shall not remember our encounter once you reach the shore. You will never have this chance again, I wish you the best in your life along the shore."
Sighing, you stand and turn your back to the sea-bound creature that you came so close to staying with. You walk away from her, back across the rocks to the shore.
She watches you go, devastated by your choice. All she had asked for was your love and devotion. That wasn't much, was it? All she wanted was for you care for her, and she would in turn care for you? What was wrong with that? Where had she gone wrong? Had you never cared, and she had simply chose the wrong human? Possible, she thought, but for some reason she doubted that. No, you was the one she had been waiting for... You had simply turned her down. All of those years spent waiting for you, and now she must watch you walk away from her, back to the land-bound life you had led. Her heart was about to break!
Suddenly, you stop, only a few steps from the shore, you turn back to her and she almost smiles. Instead, a tear drop falls, which makes her wipe her eye. SHe wonders if you are having second thoughts. It is a bit too late for that now, you had already made your decision.
Looking at her and all she had to offer, you look to the rock you had chosen, and then to the shore before returning your gaze to her. Your conflict is raging inside of you, but you are only a few short seconds away from ending that right there, and taking those steps to your freedom. Sure, you would not miss her, for you would not remember having ever met her. That was not a soothing thought.
