The black unicorn shook his head angrily. Whatever was coming he would face it. Friend or foe it didn't matter to him. It smelled musky and strange and that was enough to warn him of danger. He pawed the ground uneasily, shifting his lambent silver eyes to the left then the right.
A huge red stag stepped out of the bushes like a prince from some fable. He parted them with no sound, and looked around lazily. There was nothing here to harm him. He was lord of the forest king of all he surveyed. He held his head high, his deep red coat seeming to glow in the gathering gloom.
