Animalia Magazine: Stupid Superstition Edition

added by makutamon 2 years ago O

The November issue of Animalia Magazine not only talked about Thanksgiving recipes and the origin of certain traditions in Thanksgiving, but also the origin of certain superstitions since there was a Friday the 13th in November. While some of them were a bit more understandable, others were a bit more surprising.

---

The "Cover Couple" was Lucy Greenwall, Madame Madge, and Miss Vivian. While there were some who were confused, it became easier to understand when they got to their "featured article", which was the one that talked about superstitions. One surprising superstition origin was tied to black cats, since there was an old belief that "black, shadowy cats" were carriers of plague and were thus targeted for extermination instead of rats. Everyone called that "the worst decision ever in history", and considered that fact funny.

The article talked about how certain superstitions got started, such as spilling salt causing bad luck was due to a spilled salt shaker being near Judas in Da Vinci's The Last Supper. But there were some superstitions that were way different depending on the country you were in. For example, in Great Britain, a black cat crossing your path was supposed to bring good luck while a white cat was the one that brought bad luck. While in Japan, some cats were believed to be trickster spirits called Bakenekos.

There was also a "Declassified" issue that talked about things from the initial outbreak that were "cleared" to talk about, but there was some information that were not shared on something so public as a magazine. But as a homage to old stereotypes, there were gaps of "sensitive information" that were censored out with black bars. But if anyone had tried to get past those black bars in any way the black bars were actually covering up white spaces, much to their chagrin.

One such thing talked about how a 'crazy old cat lady' became a cat Animalian alongside her, male, cats during the initial outbreak and was the first Animalian diagnosed with what was now recognized as RHS.

---

Another new article talked about the evolution of both male and female beauty. While there were those that were understandable, there were parts that were surprising. One such thing talked about how there was a time where pop culture was about shaming thin girls the same way that relatively recent ads shamed fat girls. The article also talked about why many Animalians, whether male or female, ended up with large muscles. Fortunately there wasn't too much revealed on the virus, simply describing the effect as "myostatin-related hypertrophy".

---

The November issue helped many people understand many things, and thus was a good way of maintaining health for both fall and winter.
