“Great,” Lisa’s mother mutters. “This is what I get for running errands during rush hour.” Lisa’s heart sinks. There’s a huge traffic jam ahead of them. Things aren’t looking very good for her. “But we were out of pull-ups, and with how fast Lisa goes through them…”
Lisa looks over at the plastic grocery bag sitting next to her on the seat. It had changed from “bed wetting underwear” to training pants. She looks down and realizes that her booster seat is now a full car seat. Full of dread, she lifts the skirt of her dress. Her underwear has been replaced by pull-ups. As she watches, the pull-ups thicken into a full diaper. She lets out a soft whimper.
“Aw, I know you don’t like traffic, sweetie,” Lisa’s mom says. “We’re basically parked now, so it’s not dangerous for me to give you your paci.” Lisa’s mom digs around in her purse and removes a pacifier, then unbuckles and pops the pacifier into Lisa’s mouth. “There!”
Traffic begins to move again. Now sucking on a pacifier, Lisa looks back at the pull-ups package. It’s become a package of toddler diapers. At least she’s not a full baby yet. But she’s getting closer and closer to that by the minute.
