“Isn’t the second act when the monster shows up?” inquired Kelly as Kenny nodded his head in conformation as everyone looked in the water and on the beach keeping an eye out for the anything while attempting to fix the disabled ship. The setting was almost idyllic, perfect clear skies with a few groups of white clouds with a light warm breeze which smells of salt and palm trees.
As the hours passed nothing happened aside from a sea gull landing on the top of the yacht and a few crabs spotting coming out of the surf and to the beach.
“Should we go onto the beach to see what we can find?” inquired Nate as he stood on deck looking out over the salt planes and palm trees.
His girlfriend Rose turned and was about to call him an idiot for wanting to explore an island full of who knows what, but then she saw the stupid grin on his face and knew he was joking.
“What are we in a cheap horror movie?” inquired Rose with a laugh but Nate wasn’t laughing as she looked at him more closely, his normally happy go lucky face was stern and serious.
“I am just worried, if they can’t get the engine going how long until we run out of food?” said Nate
“We have a freezer full of…” started Rose before stopping as she considered. “How are we suppose to cook the food in the freezer without an oven, starting a fire on board is not a good idea. We have can food but who knows how long we will be here and fresh water as well.”
“That is what I was thinking.” Said Nate “I mean Kenny and Kelly are working on it but if neither of them can get the engine going we are screwed.”
“True.” Confirmed Rose, Kenny grew up on a farm working on engines was something he learned when he was a kid and Kelly’s family owned a small auto repair center which she would work in during the summer. Both of them knew engines and judging by the amount of cursing coming from below decks it wasn’t going well.
“I think we need to go ashore.” Said Nate with a resigned sigh as the sound of footsteps caused him to turn around to see Sam walking up to him.
“As much as I love to call you an idiot for that idea, I think you are right.” Said Sam, clearly he had been thinking along the same lines.
“So should we get everyone together and lay out a plan.” Offered Rose
About an hour later, the small dingy boat was shoved off the back of the yacht as Sam, Taylor, Amanda, Rose, Nate, Mike and Stacy headed toward shore. Kelly and Kenny stayed onboard to keep working on the perfect but dead engine. They also carried a cooler full of some of the frozen food. Sam and Nate both jumped out of the boat as they neared the shoreline and pulled it in.
“Alright, Amanda and Nate will stay here…work on making some food.” ordered Sam as Nate grumbled a bit under his breath. He wanted to go explore the island but aside from Amanda who was an amazing cook, he was the best cook and if the worse should happen here he was the second strongest.
"Rose you stay and help." sand Taylor, that was more of a face saving move, Rose couldn't cook to save her life, last time she tried to caught an egg on fire. However she was a medical student and if something happened she could help either Kelly or Kenny on the boat or one of the search parties on land quickly.
“The rest of us will split up and see what we find.” said Taylor as they began to explore the island. They split up boyfriends going with girlfriends, as Sam and Taylor headed one way while Mike and Stacy headed another.
