Of all the things Maggie thought that could go wrong, it never involved the transformed girls. More so, it never involved any of those girls getting lost. Maggie looked at Taylor, “I thought you said you made sure Murphy took a hike?”
“In regards to Darla and Tony he did,” Taylor grumbled, “Guess the law decided that the girls are free real estate. It’s fine, fine,” Taylor tiredly rubbed her face, “Just get the other girls back and then get Paulette back. She might not do anything to me, but I doubt Clarice would be happy if one of her girls disappeared while a piece of jewelry.”
“Well, first off, take a deep breath and clam down. Then find get the others to safety and find Paulette. You did make her kinda fancy looking.”
Taylor stared at Maggie for a second, “I know you probably mean like a pawn shop, but for a second I had a horrible thought of someone taking her apart and selling bit by bit.”
“Okay…you need a vacation.”
“I would like a vacation,” Taylor agreed, “Maybe after this mess, when break comes, we’ll go to a nice secluded place and enjoy it.”

The grass felt weird to Paulette’s metallic parts – the hair had felt just bearable on the side of itchiness, but this was like laying in wet, col hay. The air didn’t feel that different, just sort of off – like everything else. Focusing her sight let Paulette know that her tumble had clearly left her at the bottom of the small hill the tree was on and that the only people in the area seemed to be wayward partygoers or drunks.
Paulette did start to worry on what could happen to her. She only caught glimpses in reflections, but even from those she could tell she looked fancy – maybe high end? Gina’s the expert on jewelry, not her – so, if anybody with ill intent enough spots her, they could take her to parts unknown-WOOSH!
Paulette could only internally freak out as she suddenly found herself up from the ground.
Way up.
Like, being carried by a bird way up.
The put of where her stomach should be has dropped as she sees the park giving way to tall buildings and people filled streets as the bird – magpie? Maybe jay of some sort? – weaved through the buildings and streets, giving Paulette a rollercoaster ride of her life-clang!
Either the bird miscalculated, or fate was in a jokey mood, as Paulette was released from its claws and found herself uncontrollably freefalling from a minimum of 10 stories up down to the grey concrete making up the sidewalks.
The only thing saving her from a painful meeting with the ground was a large crate being rolled out of a store – not that it was any less painful, considering, but beggars, choosers. Calming down, Paulette, who ended up face/jewels down, could hear some voices just under her, “Did ya hear that, Ralph? What was that?”
“Dunno, Tad. Maybe something fell on top of the crate?” Paulette felt the large hand gripping form and pulling it off the wooden box towards two slightly older men.
“Huh, where did this come from? Looks expensive.”
“Just put on the other box, we gotta get these in the truck, before the boss comes out.”
Paulette found herself once again facedown on a box, as the two men went to complete their task of packing everything in the truck, leaving to wonder what else could possibly happen. What was taking Taylor so long to find her? Were Darla and Tony still out and having fun? Paulette could only internally grumble at the situation – then again, she was at fault as to why she was even in this mess in the first place…
“Well, aren’t you pretty?” Paulette could only internally groan as a young teen picked her up and gave her a greedy look.
