Another night of limited sleep for Jeff. She was the last to bed and had to be the first to rise, or risk another morning fight. Luckily her eggs had come out easily and before the rest of the hens had awoken. Nabbing at her chance, Jeff flew out onto a nearby tree branch and returned to her sleep until breakfast.
The farm hands had noticed the increase of loose feathers and small droplets of blood with in the coup as of late and felt that it had carried on long enough. They didn't want their hens killing each other and so they bought a rooster to hopefully bring back some order.
This morning, one of the farmer's girls came out to the coup. It was usually later in the day for one of the farmer's family to stop by, so Jeff, who had woken up from her sleep, didn't pay her too much mind. At least until she noticed her sitting up in the tree, with a few noticable gaps and sone dried red between some of her feathers. "There she is, up in the tree over there." Anounced the girl, who was now pointing at Jeff. Then from out of no where a smaller girl, likely the younger sister of the first girl who could at most be 7 years old, came running. "Where? Where's Chiky?"
"Hold up. Chiky? Is that me? Did this little kid seriously name me Chiky?" Thought Jeff, or rather, Chiky. While it is true, she had heard the kid call out Chiky before, she never really took it as being her name before. She just thought that was how this kid called all of chickens. Does that mean that she is actually her personal chicken? And Chiky huh, well it wasn't like she had bothered to rename herself, although she did have to admit that Jeff really wasn't the most feminine of names. So she decided to just go by Chiky from now on.
The older sister, who Chiky remembered being called Ashley, approached her branch with one of her gloved fingers extended out into a perch. If she were a normal chicken, Chiky felt that she likely would have either flewn away or ignored the perch entirely. But being formerly a human, she understood what was wanted of her and complied, to an extent. Instead of the finger perch, Chiky flapped her wings and glided down onto the little girls head, while being careful to not harm her with her talons. The only reason why she did this instead of taking the perch was simply to humoring the little kid.
"Mama look! Chiky is on my head!" giggled the little girl.
Wait Mama? Chiky looked at Ashley, but there was just no way. She was just 18, 20 at best. Then she felt herself get lifted up gently by a pair of ungloved hands. Looking back, the older face of who she assumed was the actual Mother was down at the girl with a worried look. "No no no no no. You need to be careful with her, Renley. See her feet have these sharp, pokey points." Hearing that, Chiky felt a little bit insulted. She wouldn't hurt the little girl in the slightest. So to prove it, Chiky began making a fuss, which ultimately succeeded in the woman dropping her. She used this moment to land carefully again on the girls head and then nestled down into her hair before she closed her eyes, pretending to appear as if she was sleeping. The mother tried to pick Chiky back up, but the cycle just repeated 2 more times until the mother had had enough and just let her be since even Renley said that she was not hurting her.
"Fine then, crazy bird. Harm a hair on her and I will stir fry you, understand." Warned the mother, which was an empty threat on her part as to all of the girls, Chiky was just a chicken and likely had no idea what was even said, but Chiky herself took it to heart nonetheless, and gave a single "Bwawk" in response, much to the amusement of both Ashley and Renley.
