"Excuse me," Hannah said. "Look, Rexie told us, you're this all powerful witch or whatever, you could turn us into gnats and lock the rings in a safe if we step out of line. I bet you could do it before Darren could even think of anything. And I bet all your friends here could do worse to us before could blink."
Darren and looked at Hannah in alarm at her poking the hornet's nest. "But when Darren said he didn't plan on it. He was lying... because it was my idea... I'm guess it was because he figured he'd be turned into a toad if he just said it was his 'goof-up'?"
Darren nodded.
Hannah continued. "I asked every question I could to see if becoming a Cherub would give her a better life. Isn't that the only real rule? That they be happy? ... He did it for me. I get it, you showed you're aware of everything he changes and can change it back if it doesn't fit YOUR approval. Looking, breaking into the house was stupid. But if Darren is really someone who's gonna change all of us into... whatever, because it'll help stuff in the long run... Shouldn't you be ENCOURAGING HIM when he does something for someone that makes them happier? What if he say, decides to turn everyone into horn lizards who all like tap-dancing or something? What if you don't like horn lizards or tap dancing? Will you just undo that too? Give him a chance to have some friggin' CONFIDENCE! Maybe that was destiny too, after all, he took Steven's STUPID dare to sneak into your house... Though I guess that more to do with Crystal Mathers."
"HANNAH!" Darren blushed beat red.
"Come on Darren, I already know you crush BIIIG on her."
Steven gasped. "Wait! Darren! You gotta crush on Crystal Mathers?! She's way out of your league!"
"... Okay... maybe not totally obvious. It's like how Crystal Mathers acts like miss 'study, school events, charity work' but she's a total fantasy nerd! I've seen the glass unicorns she buys when she thinks nobody is looking, and that's just for starters. If she asked you to turn us all into crystal unicorns people, you do it just to see her smile wouldn't you?"
Darren hesitated... well... maybe everyone being crystal unicorn people wouldn't be so bad if Crystal Mathers asked him nicely?
"See what I mean?" Hannah gestured to Darren looking at Yuriko. "He has more trouble saying no to someone than Crystal Mathers' android maid! If we're really gonna be remade in his vision, he needs help deciding what his vision even is!"
Oh right... those were now a thing for the last couple decades... Not magic or some conspiracy of human brains trapped in robots... just the inevitable march of science and AI. They'd even brought along a no-frill model in parts to the first Mars landing to help with construction. The public models had only come come on the market once they'd figured out how to make them human-like enough that it was endearing without it being creepy (since boxes on wheels robots had been cheaper and more common place for years before that!).
Yuriko suddenly felt older.
Yuriko smirked. "I like you Hannah. You've got spunk, and brains, and you stand up for your friends. Darren has a LOT that he's going to need to learn from you. Very well Darren. Hannah said you retconned Rexie into a cherub because you thought it make her life better thanks to Hannah's prodding... Can you a give a REASON to make another change?"
"... Is it true sex demons are barren?"
"... How do you know that?"
"I was... kinda looking for stuff on the internet, with... information about magical creatures?"
"Or he was looking for stuff that any teenage boy looks for," Hannah shrugged.
Darren blushed again.
"Yes it's true... You saw Akira and Ayami's wedding rings didn't you?" Yuriko whispered.
He nodded.
"He actually noticed something subtle, incredible." Hannah declared theatrical.
"... I'm impressed actually a little at what you're thinking, and yes, they've considered it, but accepted it was impossible and moved on. But they have hoped for it... I'll undo it myself if it goes wrong."
There was a shockwave of magic. Ayami true demon form manifested on its own for a moment... her skin turned blue rather than crimson, and her wings became shimmering rather than leather, her horns becoming a golden ring... Her figure... actually stayed much the same, if losing the impossible thin waist.
But that wasn't the cause of the powerful magical shockwave as the power of the Catalyst rewrote reality for a third time.
A white fox with blue eyes appeared, a spare room became a bedroom.
A kitsune child... too young even for their second tail... Her fox form reminder her of Akira... Akira! The curse on the kitsune! The cure reversed the age of those who took it! But Yuriko remembered... Lilith had once been able to reduce a powerful eight tail kitsune to a one-tail without even trying... And Yuriko... was quiet powerful herself... in a edited time... couldn't she was done the same?
Yuriko remembered, there was one important restriction to the Catalyst's power... it could not make (nor unmake) any change to reality that would wipe someone out of existence.
"So what is this big change you're gonna make?" The fox kit asked.
Darren startled, he and Yuriko were the only ones to remember she hadn't been there a moment before.
"Sachiko!" Said the angel of maternal-sex. ... The ones created able to experience pregnancy and childbirth to better appreciate the mortals they guided. "You can have fun with our unwanted guests later! Let Granny Yuriko finish scaring them straight!"
"Yes Mama!" Sachiko skipped over where her parents were, grabbing a leaf and placed it on her head, and shifting shape into a blue eyed Japanese child with white hair. The leaf turned into a knee length dress behind her first foot fall.
Steven said dully, "Dad always said those stories of a ghost girl around town was likely just a fox."
'Sachiko... a name that meant 'child of bliss.' A name that Ayami would pick for her child,' Yuriko thought.
