As Darren now practiced, Rexie trailed behind Sachiko. The imp, now cherub, had never really enjoyed magic lessons. Rexie had always been a prankster, even as a human. She had only tolerated it because of Mia.
Mia, just thinking about her made the cherub sad. Reflecting on her time as the witches familiar, Rexie paused. Even though reality had shifted, her memories of Mia remained completely unchanged.
"Something bothering you Rexie?"
Rexie stood stock still, she recognized that voice but it couldn't be possible! Slowly turning her head the cherub gasped as she beheld an ethereal being. "Mia!"
"In the flesh," the ghostly Mia chuckled. "Well so to speak."
Rexie glanced between Suchiko and Mia, lowering her voice so as not to alarm the young kitsune. "Mia how is this possible," she whispered. "You usually cant appear with Yuriko summoning you."
"Its a special occasion," Mia grinned. "Its not everyday a Catalyst is discovered."
"So it's big news then," Rexie muttered.
"Its all the talk beyond the veil," Mia said. "Everyone is watching. You, Ayami, Akira, and Yuriko are going to have your work cut out for you."
Rexie simply nodded, glancing back at his young niece. "Mia do you remember Sachiko?"
Mia nodded, a warm smile spreading across her face. "One of the more interesting parts about being dead is you can clearly see how things are and how they were."
"So you can see all the changes clearly, " Rexie stated before sighing. "I'm having a hard time putting my memories of Suchiko together."
"Kind of why they let me visit," Mia said happily. Rexie now paused as her old master helped explain the relationship between Rexie and his niece.
By human standards Sachiko was about 8 years old. The young girl was sweet in nature, polite, and very loving. Sachiko though was also very mischievous, pulling pranks and making people laugh. Rexie couldnt help but chuckle as she immediately made a connection.
"So shes just like you," Rexie chuckled.
Mia nodded, a ghostly giggle escaping her lips. "Yeah and that why you two get along so well."
"I miss you Mia," Rexie said sadly. Mia sighed, a warm smile spreading across her ghostly face.
"I miss you too Rexie," Mia smiled. "Listen you're going to be okay. This change, well, it just represents who you truely are. Deep down Rexie you were good. You watched over me, guided me throughout my life, even watched over my children. You may have been a demon but you had the heart of an angel."
"A mischievous heart," Rexie grinned, causing Mia to laugh.
"No denying that," Mia stated. "Whether your a demon or an angel your still a prankster, just like your niece over there. Now why dont you two go have some fun."
Rexie nodded, saying I love you to her former master as she now sat by the side of her newest charge. Mia simply smiled, she had a feeling things were going to be alright.
