A Game of Change

Civil War

added 18 years ago A

Dave rolled 8. A lion claw moved his counter forward, passing Tom on the inside path and landing on a card square.

Your schizophrenia makes things hard.
To clear things up a bit, here's this card.
Keep one: lion, snake, eagle, or goat.
Vanish shall those that lost the vote.

Dave's goat head evaluated the words. "So, I choose to keep one animal, and the other parts will go away? That's easy. The goat."

As one head said the goat, the other two simultaneously answered with "The lion" and "The snake." All three heads shot annoyed looks at each other.

"Uh-oh," Sue muttered. Terry shifted away from Dave's massive form as his three heads began arguing with themselves.

"I was first, and lions are best suited for battle," the middle head boasted.

"Ssssnakesss are more agile, and quite deadly," the snake brought its long fangs close to the lion's face. The lion stared back with daring eyes.

"I can see there's no good way to resolve this crisis," spoke the goat head. "Since nobody is going to give a voice to those poor eagle wings on our back, and since neither of you two stubborn beasts would ever side with me, I shall break the tie by choosing one of you."

Immediately, the other two heads snapped to face the goat, both with equally intimidating expressions on their faces.

"I choose the lion."

As if to punctuate the decision, the goat head immediately shrunk like a deflating balloon and melted into Dave's right shoulder. The snake did the same on his left shoulder, leaving only the lion's head intact. His broad wings folded themselves and disappeared into his back. The fur on his brown goat legs brightened to a golden orange as his hooves softened and split into the toes of a lion's paws. Dave was now completely a lion.

"Dave?" Tom squeaked.

"I'm here," the lion growled. "Back in one piece. It's so weird...I can remember being all three of them. Am I really that much of a jerk?"

"Only sometimes," Terry chuckled.

"Watch it," Dave crept closer to Terry. "I'm still a dangerous animal."

"You asked!" Terry said, defensive.

"So, now it's Hannah's turn..." Sue indicated the sleeping feline creature curled up next to her.
