From the distance, a ground shaking roar sounds over the hills. The birds were flying away in fear from the source. Maggie blinked and looked at Taylor, “That’s one of them?”
“Yup!” Taylor cheered, “So, let’s go and fight it!”
Dubious, but curious and somewhat excited, Maggie followed Taylor, their horses racing through the forest to the source of the roars and thuds of something big moving over there. Maggie had no idea what to expect – Taylor didn’t say what kind of monsters the warrior race fought, so that was a lot of room for imagination – beyond that it was probably massive.
And boy, she was right.
It wasn’t Godzilla in size, but it was like three large bears stacked on each other in terms of size with the mass of like five bears, dark fur, with huge forearms that bore most of its weight, though the hind legs did not that powerful they would certainly hurt if you get hit by them, a huge maw full of very sharp fangs, red glowing eyes and a strange set of bone like protrusions started as three horns (kind of like a triceratops) down its spine and jutting out of its elbows.
Maggie wondered if those served the beast as some extra weapon/protection, a sign of age or just Taylor being extra.
Then she looked at its forearms and noticed some rather sharp claws – the fitting leather suddenly didn’t seem so secure, nor did the sword on her back feel so strong…
“Uum, Taylor? Will our swords even do anything to this guy?” Maggie shouted over the wind.
“You’d think I’d give us something that wouldn’t work? Let’s go!”
The braincell that Maggie had custody of at that moment decided to go on its own vacation, as Maggie decided ‘fuck it, Taylor will fix it’, unsheathed her sword and followed Taylor into the battle, as the beast realized they were there and wanted to fight.
Leaping off her horse, Taylor took her sword and swung it at the beast, stabbing it in the paw as it tried to bring a fist down on Taylor. It roared in pain and swung the other arm, which Taylor just dodged. Taunting and yelling at it, Taylor drew the beats attention to her, just for her to throw the sword into its eye, making it shriek in pain.
Maggie got off of her horse in a normal fashion, before unsheathing her own sword and rushing into battle.
“Think you can throw me up?” Taylor gestured to the still stuck sword. It took a second for Maggie to realize what Taylor meant, but then, she grabbed and with all her might threw Taylor like how she’s seen it done in the superhero genre towards the beast’s face. The monster liked the blade coming out as much as it went in, given the ground shaking outrage it expressed and started attacking them again.
Snarling and smashing, the girls dodged out of the way and quickly moved to strike from behind, the lumbering beast couldn’t follow either girl as swiftly, could only roar in pain as Maggie slashed its tendons apart, further slowing it down.
Despite the monster’s range with its massive forearms and sharp claws, the girls were too quick for it and working together they managed to hack and slash away at the unruly beast. Copying Maggie, Taylor went for its elbows, taking away the beast’s main weapon.
Weakened and injured, the monster flopped to the ground, but was still determined to bite them to death. When it raised its head again, Maggie saw her chance.
With a mighty battle cry, Maggie ran straightforward, sword ready and when she got close, she stabbed the weapon into the monster’s heart. With a final choking sound of rage as it drowned in its own blood, the beast fell to the ground, with only a few muscle spasms following before stilling forever. The two new amazons, pulling their swords out of the carcass, looked over their handiwork, as they felt rather winded from their first ever fight.
“Whoa…” Maggie’s word made Taylor smirk.
“Awesome, right?”
“Yeah…” Maggie looked at her bloody sword with some confusion, “How was I…able to do that?”
Taylor sheathed her sword, “Well, I did say we’re now amazon warriors – all the nice abilities, like speed, strength and skill, are a part of us.”
“And yet the two of us look like doing a cosplay.” A light smile appeared on Maggie’s lips.
Taylor raised an intrigued brow, “You wanna look the part?”
“Well,” Maggie sauntered closer to Taylor, a sly smirk appearing, hands around her waist and pulling her close, “You did say clothing is optional…”
