But Mark decided that even if Aidan was happy with his changes, he was still too much like his old self. And he wanted a twin for a reason.
“Good to know that you like it, Aidan. But to be honest, I wanted a bit more out of this. While we are now twins in body, we´re far from it in mind. And I think we should be more alike there as well. So, as sad as it makes me to lose you, Aidan, I want you to be my identical twin not only in body, but also in mind. We will be linked, and my memories, my personality, my feelings will replace yours completely now. But don´t worry, I made a back-up of yours, if we ever want the old Aidan back later.” Mark explained with a grin.
Aidan, still hugging him, froze. “No, please Mark, I don´t argh….” Aidan moved back, grabbing his head. He had a sudden, heavy headache right now.
It was as like resetting a computer with a back-up file. While Aidan stood there, grabbing his head in pain, everything inside it was erased. Feelings for his family or his first girlfriend, his crush on that boy in his class, his love for art together with his skills and all memories he ever had were purged from his brain, leaving it completely void off anything. His body worked completely on instinct to keep alive.
Then, Mark´s information went in, replacing the void with new memories, new quirks and feelings. On the outside, it weren´t even ten seconds for that all to happen.
Mark watched as his twin´s hands went down, as he looked up and into Mark´s eyes. “You know, that was cruel to the poor Aidan, right?” the twin said.
“Don´t worry, you know I have made a back-up off his data. And you also know how much I wanted to have you.” Mark responded.
“Yeah, I know. We are the same, I´m more like your clone then your twin, Mark. So, let´s think about a name, I know we haven´t thought about one until now” the unnamed twin said. That was true, for all Mark had thought off, how to call the twin hadn´t been on his mind.
It took them a bit to decide on Mike, as they agreed to not call him Aidan, and it was the first name they liked in any way. With a few other adjustments, such as establishing Mike´s existence while Aidan´s was erased (again with a back-up to return to) and deleting the “Mark rules” comment, the twins soon head home, Aidan´s flat now owned by them as a retreat location.
