Their shocked expressions soon faded into… smiles? “Oh my dear lord, you have been blessed, Maria. Our prayers have been answered,” her father responded.
Despite often acting as a liaison between her parents and Lilith, even Maria was confused by what they were saying. “What are you talking about? This new virus from the news changed me.”
This time her mother answered, “These people don't know what they're talking about. Our holy lord took those parts away from you, so you could never fall into temptation.”
“B-But I’m a monster.” Maria felt the tears coming again. “I might never give you grandchildren with this body. I’m not even sure if I still am a girl.”
“Pah, you have been born as a girl, so you're a girl. Nothing will change that,” her father said as he walked up to embrace her.
“If our lord decided this way, we’ll accept not getting grandchildren. You're not a monster, you’ve been chosen by Him to become an angel,” her mother added while joining the hug.
While leaning into the embrace of her parents, Maria realized they were right. Everything that happens does so for a reason and she should’ve never doubted the decision of her lord. She had been chosen to become an angel to do something important and not punished for her actions the previous day.
After that the morning in the Dieu-household continued as usual (the only exception being that Maria didn't have to deal with a bra). When it was time to go to school Maria stopped in front of the door. The acceptance of her parents and her own belief gave her the confidence to face life directly with her changed body, but she was fully aware that all of this was hanging on by a thread depending on the reaction of one person. The other most important person in Maria's life, her best friend Lilith Apfelbaum.
Thinking about her still caused the same fluttery feelings inside of her as before, so her love was unchanged. Now she could only hope that Lilith wouldn't be repulsed by her new, blessed body. She couldn't even imagine what she'd do if that was to happen. She opened the door and walked over to the neighbours’ house to pick up her friend as usual.
