Looking out the window he could see the “fantasy wave” passing over a nearby hill, judging by how fast it was going they had 5 maybe 10 minutes before it reached their house.
“It is only a few minutes away.” said his wife Lisa as she moved to stand by his side. They where a semi-typical couple in their mid 40s, 3 kids, a house in the suburbs and two good paying jobs. Both of them where dentists and worked at a nearby office in a big city, they both kept in good shape but age was starting to get to them both.
“Yes.” said Mike with a resigned sigh as he looked back toward the TV, the reports said the wave was heading around both sides of the planet so there was no point in running. The neighbors across the street had done that…it may buy then a few hours at most of remaining human, maybe less because of the traffic, if the neighbors had tried the highway which was likely it was worse traffic jam in history. Better to change at home then in some car as far as he thought.
“I got a hold of Aunt Mary.” announced their 18-year-old daughter Jane as she looked at her phone, their 16 year old son sat beside her trying to work his phone as well. Their youngest the 6-year-old boy, their surprise was playing with the dog not understanding what was happening and maybe that was for the best.
“She said she is a Centaur and that the entire house changed as well.” Said Jane as she read the text, phone lines where clogged even cell phones but texts took less bandwidth or something like that and could sometimes get through when voice couldn't. “She says it is a mixture of magic and technology.”
“That is what the news has been showing.” Said Lisa as she looked at the news, it was showing the Washington Mall which had been transformed only 30 minutes ago. The concrete had been replaced with cobblestones, the cars with carts and the Washington Monument was now floating with a large crystal on the bottom. The military personal which they saw on screen seamed to have what looked to be something like steam punk rifles and the like. A tank had become some kind of spider like walker with a smoke stack coming out of the top. Their uniforms had changes along with their bodies, some now in full armor while others wore robes and others with a mixture of stuff.
“I got Uncle Max….” announced their 16-year-old Sam as he looked at his phone. “He…well now she is a fairy.”
“Well…I guess that means it is for sure that blood relations do not mean you transform into the same creature.” said Lisa, Max and Mary where twins and they had become totally different monsters.
“Yes.” said Mike as he looked out the window again, the wave was now only a few houses down on their little piece of suburbs. “Everyone put their phones away and lets have a hug.”
“Alright.” Said Jane as she put her phone down, which was a miracle in it’s own way. Sam who wasn’t into hugs anymore that being too much of a sign of weakness gave in to this. Their youngest Luke was more then happy to hug his family. Even the dog was pulled in as they hugged each other with tears in their eyes as the fantasy wave passed over them.
